My friend wants me to help him building a 1000hp streetīn strip engine. No problem for me. He tells me money is no problem, but I know he does not know what a good engine will cost. So he rings me last nigh telling me is on the net getting ready to order a block, I told him wait and let me check things out first. So we are going to use a iron block, the key to the build is low maintenance. He is not a engine guy and I can not help him all the time. So a big cube wedge or hemi, but what is the best bang for the bucks. I think a 550 somthing with the big indy heads, so what do you think

bang for the buck...
cast iron wedge 4.5" bore stroker kit (you want it all forged anyway) indy sr heads or something like that hydraulic roller cam for the low maint procharger
Sound slike a low maintenance, cheaper then a hemi, torque hp monster. But the engine guys will have more and properbly better options I guess.

He's not asking for much is he? Tim at FHO built me a pump gas procharged 547" hemi. It made 1066hp 14 pounds of boost. He just built a 604" hemi that made 1100 hp. 14:1 mopar cross ram intake. It will be more difficult to do in a wedge then a hemi.

I think this is all good, now I can show him what you say and write, even if I tell him the same thing he must have a second opinion Just becouse I built my latest SixPack engine and it made just under 700 hp in Super Stock mode he thinks it's easy to just go a little bigger and get 1000hp. He has no clue in what it thakes to make my 440 to live at 700hp. I will now tell him he need at least $40-50.000 to get a 600cui monster that makes 1000hp easy and are reliable on the street. Thanks

There are a number of ways to do this.
Ask him what he like to look at....Screw, roots, oxide, turbo, procharger, big cube N/A, etc.
Let him narrow it down, then come back for specifics.

I have made more HP and torque building wedge motors than with Hemi motors My choice would be a max ported set of B1 and a World block with either 4.5 bore and 4.5 stroke or 4.625 stroke, pump gas and a 150 or 200 HP NOS set up

Yep, not gonna see 1000 streetable horsepower from a n/a motor.
And if you're going to blow something, it might as well be the engine that responds best to it.

Big (500+) twin turbo Hemi ought to be easy enough. My buddy with the Chevy 502 (502 crate motor) twin turbo Ford Ranger made 1000+ to the wheels with this combo.

pump gas Predator head on a Hemi block will make 1000+ N/A
Yes it will. But because it runs on pump gas doesn't necessarily make it street able. If by street able you mean it will survive the NMCA 30 mile run, ok. Not sure I'd really consider a predator engine that's 600" with a huge roller street able but that's just me. Your mileage may vary

I saw that at the last heads-up race at Milan I believe. Pretty wild!
