A couple guys showed interest in this so here is a pic.
Dimensions of the shroud are 18"tall, 24"Wide, and it's 3.5" at it's thickest point (where the motors stick out).
Right in the middle, though, where most pullies or water pumps might interfere, it is only 3" thick, and that + the capacity of it might make it a winner for certain apps....
.....as long as there's enough alternator to power it up.
Haven't measured current draw but I suspect it is an amperage hog. I've been looking at it for a swap using a 136A Denso (stock 5.7 truck alternator) for a street car I'm fooling around with....and wouldn't recommend too much less alternator than that.
The mounting points are roughly 26" wide, and as said in the other post...it actually appears the whole radiator with the shroud could probably be fit into an old Mopar without too much trouble. Either that or the fan could be used on a universal style radiator if the stock mounting is cut off, and a few little brackets made up.

hey Zippy, any chance you can measure the amp draw. the hhr fan is right at 14 amps. its caused me a little grief at the race track draining my battery on the second day of a 2 day race but ive just about got that all figured out.
cools nice on the street though
I doubt any fan worth anything is going to draw less than 14 amps (IMHO). I'm sure it draws more...

didnt say i need something that draws less, but id like to know what it draws,im happy with what i have on my roadrunner now. but i may choose to go electric on onother car at some point. just looking for options. being a duel fan it would also be nice to know what each fan draws.
my issue with the hhr fan has nothing to do with alternator output, my problem comes with the between rounds cool downs. the real easy fix is to just add another battery, but i dont want to. what ive come up with is a plug in to run the fan off of my jump start battery pack between rounds. worked like a charm last weekend but it wasnt real hot either. so ill see next summer when i start racing again.
I see what you mean...I just misunderstood. That battery pack thing is a good idea.

do you have a part # for that unit and approximate cost? also, any more info on the amperage draw yet? it looks like a good alternative so far.

It might draw 14 amps running but 30 or so on startup?

I haven't had much time to dink with it any more Dan, will check it out further when I get a chance.
It's high priced. Mopar service parts does not sell it as a unit as far as I can tell, it's all separate pieces (blades, shroud, motor, the other motor, 2 left hand thread blade attaching nuts), and at retail it's going to come in somewhere over 3 bills. Truthfully, I stopped adding it up when I got to three-thirty something.
Used is probably the way to go for cost savings.
But maybe this is enough cause for a brainstorm....I'm looking at a picture of the MP Viper fan also which is a good strong unit (but it's a big single), P5007266, and retails for $371...so the Challenger fan does not seem like too bad of a deal. The same Viper fan as a service part costs something like $450 (but hey, it's a Viper part).
Here's a thought: What if MP kitted up the Challenger fan into one part number and sold it at a reduced price (compared to buying all the pieces separate from service parts)? Let's say it came in somewhere around $250-ish. Any interest? I can put a bug in someone's ear.
