The pics I'd love to see would be the RHD conversion details, both underhood and how the dash looks. Is everything swapped over? I see the brake booster but is the steering box and pump on the other side? Is the speedo in kilometers? Does the passanger apply the parking brake?

Scott, we're cleaning the Daytona up tomorrow morning for the Gratiot Cruise. It looks pretty lived in right now. By the way, the brake booster is a General Motors Australia (Holden) brake booster and the steering box is an Australian Ford Falcon steering box that is located on the right hand side of the car. The power steering pump is still in the stock location on the left hand side of the car. The dash conversions thirty years ago were kind of primitive but still pretty cool. The stock B-Body ashtray/lighter compartment is done away with however. If I ever get my new scanner hooked up, I will scan in some of the pics from the photo album I got with the car showing the firewall during the conversion process. It's amazing how much work is involved in doing this.

I talked to two different collector car appraisers about the car and they both docked the car's value approximately $40,000 because of the RHD conversion and urged me to convert the car back to LHD!!! What a crock!!! If I had wanted an LHD Daytona, I would have got one!!! Am I out there on that one or do others feel the same way? The car has so much unique history behind it that I could never bring myself to take any of that away from it. I am also gonna post some pics of it from what it looked like back in the day. Stay tuned, I'll be back with more!

Leave it right hand drive. It'll get lots of looks and approval. To heck with those so called "appraisers". It's uneque now.

John,
Glad to hear you are back in familiar territory. I have done a cross country like you did twice, once in a 1969 Road Runner and once in another '70 GTX. I know what you mean about driving at night, good idea. As far your Daytona, I agree with you, leave it RHD. Very interesting conversation piece to say the least. Enjoy the ride.........

Leave it RHD. That way, everyone will know whose it is when they see it. Glad you all had a good adventure and are all safely home. Thanks for sharing the trip with us. It was cool.

This would be so much easier if I knew what I was doing...

Lets put it this way, you would not have had 4000+ views if it were LHD. You would not have had a magazine write up if it were LHD. I would not be posting this if it were LHD. And most important of all, you would not have had Dart Girl go all the way to the west coast if it were LHD.

Hey y'all, the stories we have from the trip definitely could fill a book and if we had a plot, it could definitely have been a movie.

Since when do car movies have plots?

And definitely leave the Daytona RHD. That's what makes it unique.

Well, I have to admit that I am posting over this thread...I am one of the dreaded "lurkers" that got absolutely enthralled with this deal...I caught myself checking in two or three times a day at work just to see how things were going. this site is cool but I never seem to have the inclination to chime in...gonna try to change that...it'll be tough but I'll try...LOL

This is just too cool! I am totally overwhelmed by everyone's kind words! I've said a few times in this thread what a rush this entire trip was and I know with all of y'all being Moparheads, that ya don't have any difficulty at all being able to relate as to just how much fun it really was.

dwdart, ya hit it right on the head when ya said about how DG gave a whole heap of people some memories that they will never forget. I was riding shotgun a good bit of the way and out in the 105 degree heat in the deserts of Nevada, Arizona and Utah, DG and the RHD Daytona was the talk of I-15 and I-70! When we'd pass semi's, DG would slow down next to the cab of the truck and driving from the right side, DG was in full view to the driver. DG would give a pull on an imaginary air horn out the window and within a split second, the truckers would sound their horns and be grinning from ear to ear! The Daytona's exhaust has a really nice resonance to it so when DG would hit the gas again to finish passing the trucks, the exhaust would give em one last little rush as the Daytona roared away. It's just all something that you really never would think would happen in real life!

Mal, no worries mate, I would NEVER in a million years change it over to LHD again. If someone wants to do it when I'm dead and gone, then so be it. To me, it would take all the uniqueness, character and heritage out of it, as well as some absolutely awesome memories for me, DG and Mark.

G-Series, all's I can say is sweeeeeeet!

RapidusMaximus, welcome to the board! That's just too cool that this thread got you to post! Moparts is pretty much the best thing to happen to the Mopar world since the birth of the Hemi! Ya gotta love it!

Look for some pics tomorrow.

john,

i bet the truckers will be telling those stories for years to come.
i'm sure that was one of those things that would only happen once in a life time if even that. what a cool trip.

DG,

i hope you had as much fun on this road trip as it looked like from the photos that where posted.

it's good that all have made it home safe and sound.

Mike, wow it looks like ya totally busted us on that one! We had already uploaded the first pic when we noticed that it may be a bit much so DG "edited" it a bit and we posted the second one. Looks like Mark forgot to delete that one from his ftp space!

Not only does DG have a knack for posing, she is one of the coolest people to be out on the road with.

Looking forward to seeing your Cuda at Woodward and taking some pics of the two red, white and blue beats!

Here's a pic that I don't think has been posted yet. This was at OzHemi's house right after putting the wing back on.

And here's a shot of two RHD Chargers. One American conversion and one genuine Aussie Charger. This was also taken at OzHemi's house.
