Well, the "BB" part is incorrect,... But, Chrysler built/used the former AMC V8 engine design and (engine production plant) in their Jeep line, through 1991. Quote:
(360 CID)It was the last AMC V8 to be manufactured. It was used exclusively in Jeep J-series Trucks 1970-1987, Jeep Wagoneer models from 1972-84, Cherokee from 1974 to 1983, and Grand Wagoneer from 1984 to 1991 - becoming the last carbureted engine built for car or truck use in North America.

AMCs did not have big or small block engines since they were all the same basic package with different displacements.

There were Gen 2 290, 343, and 390 ('66-'70) and Gen 3 304, 360, 401 ('71-'91) engines. The Gen 3 had slightly taller decks, but with only a 9.208 max deck height (Gen 3) were all considered small blocks. (SB Mopar is 9.600) The intakes were slightly different, but could be slightly modified to fit. But there were no major changes as in the SB-BB Mopars,Chevys, or Fords.

jeep also has a 304 which look close to a sb mopar..but not the same
AMC engines were 290, 304, 343, 360, 390, and 401 cubic inches. They shared the same dimensions and all were SMALL BLOCK. No engine hard parts interchange with Mopar engines and the trans bolt pattern is also different.
well, technically the lifters interchange, and the rockers on the 5.2 & 5.9 magnums are carryover AMC 290-401 parts.

AMC did some goofy stuff back in the day. We had a 1975 4X4 wrangler with the 304 or something close to it. The trans had GM Turbo 400 guts in it. We gutted the trans and put everything in the Chevy trans case. The transfer case bolted right up to the Chevy Turbo 400 case. Then we made mounts and tossed in a 350 Chevy. All fresh with parts from Northern Auto out of Sioux City, IA. It all depends on what trans is in the thing. AMC used alot of parts from different manufacters.
Snap your neck, mega G-force launch, is all I want!

The 4x4 trans' were T-400's made by GM with an AMC bolt pattern case. The auto trans in cars starting in '72 were made by Mopar - 904's or 727's with AMC bolt pattern cases.
