Billy, just for the record, I'm the new owner of your "cousins" Cuda. The 6" cowl hood was too small so it's already off! With my tunnel ram and 2 1050 dominators the carbs were too close to the hood. Instead I'm hoping to use a Pro stock style hood scoop (ie similar to DTHEMI's). But if it doesn't work out I'm upgrading to an 8" cowl scoop from AAR Quality Fiberglass just for you
Aar doesn't offer an 8" cowl hood. Glasstek would be your best bet for quality after Aar.
Went with the forward facing, but thanX for the heads-up on AAR. Pic of hood while we fitted up with the new scoop.

I like the vintage SS look and of course the Mopars did not use a cowl. But it's up to the cars owner as what they like on their car. I just like the factory racer look myself. Ron

the original design of the cowl hood scoop was to direct cool air by picking it up from deflecting it off the windshield
And it does function fairly well. There is a high pressure area at the base of the windshield.
And to those that posted they went slower, have you given any consideration that the difference in air (be it less or more with the cowl hood) affected your a/f ratio at certain speeds?
Just a though.....
Cowl hoods DO FLOW AIR into the engine.
I dont like the looks either.
but if you study the various configurations and placement you will see that many are too far from the glass to catch the air and let the scoop do it's job.
Since the advent of the taller heads/intakes from Indy, Preditor & B-1 as well as class rules its clear as to why so many are using cowls but some followup questions for the cowl hood.....
1) Should you seal the cowl scoop to the carbs?
2) How close to the front windshield should the end of the cowl scoop be for maximum air? I see some real close to the windshield almost touching it and others 6 inches or more away from the windshield.
thanks, Doug

I don't like them on many mopars but I really like them on E-Bodies but they have about the same bodies lines as 67 - 69 Camaros. It's just a personal preference. I don't think I would get anywhere near the complements I get on my car if it has a 6 pack hood on it.

If I had to use a mopar hood, I would want one like on the Killer (Hemi scoop) I always liked Mike Daugherty's cuda in KOS with that hood.
