Did a little more tonight...

I mocked up the rear valance before getting ahead of myself to make sure the brackets aligned with the valance, which they did...

I then went ahead and started putting these STUPID brackets in place. These are the most painfull thing to install and take off if your planning on do a restoration

Hey guys took off work early to get 2 hours in tonight on the car. Greg came down and helped out too!

I addressed the issue of our rusted out speaker tray. Here i cut out the old speaker area...

I could actually save the one side, it does have two holes that need to be fixed but it much better than the other side. The left is the original the right is the new...

Tacked the ring and then welded it...

The complete ring welded in...

Then i did the rear defrost area...

Here she is welded in...

While i was doing that, greg was prepping the area for it to go and then started stripping the engine bay to fully see the rust in there...

Yikes

aliving824 Over half the car! Hope they hold

1968 Charger B5 I agree. The sentimental value with be there for this one.

Did some more work on the car tonight. Had greg down and we did some work. First started using some paint stripper on some of the panel(got to dark out thats why its not finished

Then drilled off the new brackets that go from the speaker tray to the dutchman panel...

Welded them on...

Then started welding the whole speaker tray in...

Once there was enough to hold that in we laid the dutchman panel and the trunk lid on to check for fitment and gaps. Looks pretty good!

Shes coming along!

pnypwr The first cars was cut for larger speakers, the second, i cut before seeing the rust on the original. So it was easy to just patch it...

We got a lot done tonight. Parts fabbed, metal cut, and welds grinded(lots). I started in on the quarter panel replacement on the front. Here is the new panel and next to the original...

Cut off and close ups of rust...

I have to wait until daylight to cut the parts tub off to patch that first before moving further so i started repairing the dutchman panel...

Ryan made a new partial inner fender for the passenger side. Its really pitted and rough...

And it was gregs grinding day! lol He ground a lot down and here some of the stuff he did...

All I can say is AWESOME! I guess I've been living under a rock 'cause I haven't seen this thread before. I don't have the words to describe how well you guys are doing and what you're doing with what appears to be basic tools. Keep posting parts needed and I'll start looking. Lots of those cars around. Again, GREAT JOB!!

Again, what a great story being told here.
Do you guys feel you can finish the car by graduation? I am totally rooting for you, but it seems like there is so much more to work on.
Is the interior/driveline/etc being worked on concurrently with the body?
Inspiring stuff, none the less.

69bronzeT5 , 68SportSatvert Thanks guys! We always are spending time saying how far its come and which really is amazing for our prior experience(none) and tools!

new bee To be totally honest, no. It just seems like way to much. I would love to have her painted by that time for sure but we will see. The engine is done, the tranny deal is still to be figured out. The rear is in the car and will need to be taken out and checked over. We are shooting for carlisle to atleast have her mobile on its own power...

BatmanFeller Looks like we might need that help and possibly a moparts group to come down and help assemble this thing. At the rate of rust we keep finding we will need it.

So i haven't been so depressed about this project until now. This Area is just a pure PAIN! Here is the donor tub...

The trimmed up piece of the tub...

Split in two...

The cars tub cut out

Since the flanges were rusted beyond repair its going to be modified a little. I cut out the area for the new piece...

Then layed in the new piece...This area is going to be a pain because of how intertwined everything is...

Well we started tearing into "project wheel well restoration. I am doing the lower part while greg does the upper part. Here is the piece greg is using...

He started cleaning it up and found some nice pin holes

Cut out the old tub, look at that rust

My half of the project...

I first welded on the rocker cap...

I then mocked up our fabulous replacement tub

I trimmed it down and started in on the fabrication of a new lower half...

Once the new flange was on i tacked another piece on for fitment and to see look at some angles for bending it...

Then i bent the piece and welded it on...

Then put on another piece...

Then i mocked it up again and its all but done except for the flange that the quarter welds to...

I also finished up the dutchman corner...

Also looking forward to replacing this little bit of floor (right rear Corner)
