Who makes the best fuel injection cleaner? I've heard Chevron Techron is good but I've never used it - what do you guys like to use?

Yamaha Ring Free (expensive at boat stores)
Chrysler official Fuel Injector cleaner
Gumout Regane (clear bottle honey colored liquid)
Redline SI-1
Lubro-Moly Jectron and Ventril Sauber (BMW dealers)

are all good FI cleaners in addition to
Chevron Techron Concentrate Plus (Plus is important)

Thanks for the info everyone. I did some research on various automotive message boards (including bobistheoilguy.com) - Chevron Techron, Redline SI, Amsoil PI and Gumout Regane were the highest rated fuel injection cleaners.

Yesterday, I purchased a bottle of Amsoil PI from Partsource. I put it in the tank of my daily driver (1994 GMC truck) so we'll see how it works.

what one FI cleaner has trouble dissolving
another brand of FI cleaner might successfully handle,
and vice versa
so mix it up and don't use the same brand every time
is my philosophy,
and there was an article in Motor Magazine years ago that recommended the same mix it up strategy

Try Mopar Combustion Clean (05183546AA).

Recommended in tech service bulletins and approved by engineering.

That's also what I've been told (by BMW techs) and it's what I use.

can anyone think of a relatively cheap test that an
"average joe"
could run on fuel injector cleaners
that could determine
which are better than others ?

Not trying to burst anyone's bubble here, but I heard a few years ago that injector cleaner is just octane boost. That's why people figure it works so well 'cause suddenly the car/truck feels like it has more power. It made sense to me, after all, what are fuel filters for?

Well you could take the injectors in question out and test them, but most won't do it. A common drivability problem is a stall after starting. I have had this problem. With low fuel 4-5 gallons, added my own blend to the tank. The stalling was corrected and that was enough evedence for the time. Most add cleaner without a drivability issue and .

Hot Rod magazine article on ASNU

http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/engin...ay_pattern.html

Note the picture of the hole end of a Holley fuel injector.
Several years ago the EPA tested the then-available fuel injectors for an unusual project where they retro-fitted a VW TDI engine to run on ethanol and methanol with added spark plugs and added port fuel injectors.
The EPA stated that the Holley injectors had the best spray pattern at that time, at least for alcohol spray
