what about headlights?

unless that is a really small fan, that probably isn't right.

I would expect 20 amps, with nearly 40 amp starting.

ALL of those sound low to me. Are the pumps actually pumping, or just moving air? Did you measure this with the engine running (system voltage up at 14+? Are you the one that posted the other night about this?

I got the amp numbers from item's description in the summit/Mancini catalog? I thought they were low also. I didnt post yesterday but it made me think about my amp numbers. I'm running all these on a 60 amp alt. Am I good?

Thing that will kill you is short trips, and if the fan isn't key on only.

I discovered that the hard way. It would handle half hour hour drives, but 3 miles up to the corner store and back a couple times on the weekend and it was dead battery for me. I even went to the 74-8 amp square back.

Before you "just bolt in" a new alternator there is a few things to consider.

1. Your wiring set up right now is for 60 amps.

2. Chances are the wiring has a lot more "load" resistance now then when it was new due to corroded connections, oxidated wire, splices, etc. This additional "load" will drop voltage drawing more current "amps" the the device your trying to operate.

3. Current "amps" across a resistance "load" produces "heat"

4. When installing higher "Amp" alternators ALWAYS up grade the wires to your charging system ans your Fuse box.

5. When installing high amp accessories in an older vehicle (5 amps or more) always use a fuse or circuit braker.

Don't be on the side of the road up in flames.....

Only real way to know where your at is to take an amp reading while the car is running. Make sure the battery is fully charged as you want to leave it out of the scenerio. At idle, start turning stuff on one at a time. Record the amp draw of each item. Your alternator should be able to easily keep up with necessary items like fuel pump, fan, headlights. You can easily sink ( go to dischaerge ) a 60 amp alternator ( and even a 100 amper ) at idle if you turn it all on. If you can't stay on the charge side at idle with the necessaties you will have problems. You can try going to a smaller alternator pulley or find someone like "MCI" out of west Chicago ( the Company that builds alternators for "Power Master") and see if they can "soup-up" your 60 amper to put out a little more juice at a lower rpm. I had this done with a 60 amp alternator. Don't have the curve in front of me, but I think I ended up with about 10 more amps at idle than the stock 60 amp alternator provided ( without having to change pulleys ). Worked for me.
