Hey guy's, gotta a question. I have a 1971 340 in my 67 cuda. It may have 4,000 or 5,000 miles on the engine and runs really well. It right now has TRW forged pistons and I am somewhere around 9:1 to 9:3:1 compr.. If I take my J heads off, and add some eddie Alumn. heads, what kind of horsepower gain am I looking at and what comp. ratio will I be at with the smaller comb. chambers? Is it worth the dollars? I will be able to do this and leave the engine in the car which is a nice appeal, but they are expensive. What do you guys think? Thanks

Depends, what's the rest of the combo? Cam, intake, exhaust?

Right now I have, headers, a pretty good size purple cam, mopar hipo ign., I have a eddie RPM intake, I would probably go with the air gap if I went this route and a bigger carb. Right now I have a eddie Thunder 650 cfm.

No one can give you a "Real" answer because there is just too many unknowns about your current set up. ~9 to 1, Headers, RPM Intake, pretty big cam......

The Eddies out of the box flow better then the stock J heads and also have more potential then the J heads with a good porter. The Eddies will gain you about 50 Lbs off the front wheels also. $$$$ that is the real question... Are they worth it? Only you can answer that question.

Good points...Are your pistons above or below the deck? How much? There are two different chambers available for the SB.

When I switched, I made much more HP and the weight savings is really nice. Definitly worth it to me.

I would base you question on your initial goal/intentions.On a street driven vehicle,I think spending money on race parts is a waste unless you plan on some weekend racing thrown in.Now if you have an ego thing and want to flaunt how much HP you have then that's a different story. It's your money, your choice but common sense does have it's place also.Years ago I spent a lot of money for just the same thing and had motors that I probably never turned over 5500rpm.You can do that with a stock motor.Once again, your money/your choice.

Eddied will let you run a higher compression/bigger cam w/o detonation worries. I run 10.5:1 and doubt I could run the combo using iron heads.

40 hp would be a 'safe' assumption.

I don't consider Eddie heads to be race heads, just good replacement heads.

With stock unported heads, that 650 will do you fine. If you were to upgrade to the eddy's I would step up to a 750.
