LMBO!!!!! Easy dark one... it's just a little head porting....

I think the safety precautions he gave us are as, or as more important as the good porting advice and tool tech.

Wow, good info... great pics!Nice to see that a pro makes a mess at it too!First time i tried it i got those "high speed steel" bits, next to worthless.Boy did they make the head sing though.next attempt was with a two flute router bit,man was that baby hard to hold on to.But it did work a lot better than the steel bits!

Many thanks for posting this info. Might have an opportunity to put this to use on a set of magnum heads.

I've recentely (3 months) had a piece of steel drilled out of my eye. It sucks. I took care to use my glasses and some sealed goggles, but I actually got the chip in my hair and it washed out into my eye later that night . Maybe a hair net is in order

Hope this gets to the tech archives. It would be great if you could make a general post about where to look for air, and augment it with where you found good results on the various mopar heads you've worked on so far. You're becoming a real faucet of knowledge. The board is a much better place because of great guys like yourself!!!

Greg

I've heard Roger Helgensen sells special course cut carbides that make cast Iron grinding almost as quick as aluminum. Ever tried em?

Vizard and some of those guys use the old vacuum suction on the port trick to rid themselves of "brake dust"

With the small amount of porting I've attempted I kinda prefer the front exhaust air grinders as it blows the chips out so I can see what and how much I'm cutting. Squeezing the trigger can be a pain and the airs' insaciable propencity to pick up heat while expanding makes it a smite cold on the nubs, ah fingers, but heh. It's just a hobby here so no biggie.

DARKSIDE now has ryan chained to his porting table and won't let him up til his heads are done....

ryan, do you use lube on the sanding rolls or you run them dry?

Actually I've been working my tail off on DARKSIDE's $1000 W6 INDY intake manifold..... You'll be seeing pics of it next week.......

Sand Rolls always should be run dry,a nd at a relatively low grinder speed for best results.

Never Tried any of Helgessen's stuff. Don't laugh, but I often use an OLD aluma cut carbide on iron, it's cuts it like butter, but if you get too much grinder speed the head will bounce around and chip the blades...........

what no pic of the porter fully prepped for porting ? We don't know what a real porter looks like, it must be stylish with the holey old gloves and goggles etc .
