first time poster long time follower. I'm going to be building a forged 408 for a 94 Dakota using a magnum block. its going to be boosted one way or another i have a procharger D1SC that i had on my old 360 before i found the cracked block. or I'm going to put a turbo on it if i sell my supercharger. i think I'm going to go with K1 tech. crankshaft and rods unless there not right for this build they seem like a good piece and at a good price. i will be using a few parts i already have 4bbl m1, Hughes 2.02 heads, custom grind comp cam .550/.575 230/242 114, f&b 58x2 throttle body, i might have the heads ported if i have enough money at the time. will put arp studs through out engine. one thing I'm not sure about is pistons, i know forged but, I'm thinking about a compression ratio of about 9.5:1 and put about 15psi on top of that. but i cant seem to find pistons that will work. thanks for any and all input. thanks, dan.

First..... welcome to the jungle... in my opinion your 9.5 compression is too high, I would go about 8.5 then boost that

thanks for the welcome. the reason why i was going to go 9.5 so it wouldn't be gutless when not in boost.

A 408 motor with the small port heads you have should not be weak down low.

15 psi and 9.5 is pretty much race gas territory unless you run E85 or meth injection. Unless you like pushing it on pumpgas.
or maybe even a boost timing retarder.

Timing retarder would be needed either way. At 15psi I would want to be running race gas, E85 or have meth injection unless you like ash trays for pistons.

Any profesional piston manufacturer like Ross, JE, Diamond, so forth can make you up a custom boost friendly piston to handle the added loads. Stick with 8.5 to 1....no problem with low end power.

i will be running meth injection i had it on my last set up and i will be reusing it. my goal is to get my 94 dakota deep into the 11's do i dare say 10's with this set up. ive heard the lower compression was used to "hide" other faults is this true?

i run 8:1....i had ross make me pistons and then had them ceramic coated
It is far from gut less on the bottom end, that all depends on you cam and head selection, the advantage of 8:1 is that it cruises around like stock and gets decent mileage...
I had a N/A 8:1 360 in my truck for years with stock x-heads a mopar 508 purple shaft and the truck ran 12.9's- 13.0's all day
9:5-1 with 15psi you better be thinking some major top end reinforcement...or air to water intcooler on top of meth inject on a small block with c-16

the block with the crack is it i dont think was caused because of me. its a long story but to wrap it up i bought an engine assembled(never do that again) and it wasn't what it was suppose to be i did blow the head gaskets and that when i found that out. so it was a stock cast crank, h beam rods and after market piston at about 9:1 compression. and the block is cracked between the head bolt and the water jackets.
and with that setup 2bbl intake and the 2.02 heads at 15psi it ran the best of 12.9 in the 1/4, i want to go much faster then that. i would love to see an 11.0 or even break 10's but that might be pushing it. not sure.
once i get the engine built and back in the truck im going to try and sell the D1SC and the bracket/tensioner setup to fund a turbo build. if its a remote mount or a regular manifold setup.

that should be a fun ride. 8.5-9.0 C/R is real common on the boosted smallblocks we've done. done right they're very pump gas friendly, up to a point. 15 psi might be pushing it alittle.
