I'm running a CSR electric water pump & dual SPAL fans. I have both on toggle switches now. Thinking of adding a thermostatic switch to control these. But I also want to be able to override the thermostatic switch. Anyone ever do anything like this?

Haven't done it yet but, I'm planning on doing it to my Satellite. You need to pick up a couple of toggle switches that are (On. Off, On) double pole. You can then wire one side of the switch to run the thermostatic side and the other to be hot constantly.

Are you running an electric water pump also? On relays? would I have to add more relays? I am somewhat electrically challenged at times.

I'm not running a Electric W/P. However, You would only need the relays you currently have in place. All you need the first side of the switch to do is go in place of the existing switch. The second side of the switch will just bypass the thermal switch that you are currently using. (I'm assuming that you have the thermal switch on the control side of the relay and not the supply side).

Thats where I seem to be getting confused... I don't have a thermal switch now. I have the wires that would normally go to the thermal switch connected to on/ off toggle switches.

Do you already have the relays in place? Run the hot for the control side (of the relay) through the toggle switch to the thermal switch then to the relay. The thermal switch has only two terminals hot in and hot out (when the switch is activated by heat). There are different types of switches, some go in the radiator fins and others go in the coolant line. I prefer the coolant line type, I had a bad experience sticking things through raditaor fins before!!

Thanks, This does make sense to me. Doing it this way i don't need a on/off/on toggle do I? The relay won't turn on until a certain temperature. Relays are all in place, everything works off of toggles, just trying to eliminate one more thing to think about. And I will find a place somewhere to put the sensor other than the radiator probe type.

with the thermal switch in place of the toggle it would work automatically. nothing to worry about ....
