There should be a 4 digit number stamped into the passenger side front of the carb on its base. If you post that number I'm sure that some here can ID it.

Actually, it's on the driver side rear of the base plate/throttle plate. You can check the number against this list.

Did Carter change the location of the number for the Thermoquad? On my AVS it is PS front.

TQ'S were always on the right rear lug below the choke pull off.

Driver rear corner of the base plate:

So the answer to my question is yes, Carter moved the number from PS front on the AVS to DS rear with the introduction of the Thermoquad.

The swap to conventional ignition was very common. AFAIK, changing the carb wasn't necessary to put normal electronic on, if that is what you are wondering.

The car has been in the yard for years, the carb looks real nice, it had a new gasket, and the last owner had a huge fuel filter on it. It still has the twin pickup distibutor, so it was not converted, from the looks of things, it had problems (with lean burn?) and they gave up.

If the lean burn ignition isn't working right, do yourself a favor and go on ebay and buy yourself a procomp 'ready to run' distributor for a 383/400. $50-70, simple two wire hookup and you eliminate all the clutter of the stock chrysler electronic ignition and you get NEW parts.

But if the electronic spark computer is working right, I would leave it as-is for now at least. I've driven cars with the electronic spark control system working good and they drive fine. Changing it isn't manditory, really only necesarry if you're doing other mods or if it's crapping out on you.

I had lean burn on my 318/2bbl 78 Aspen r/t automatic, had tons of trouble with it ! swapped it out with new Mopar Performance Electronic Ignition and gained about 4-5 mpg, then put a 4bbl on it and gained another 2-3 mpg (as long as I kept my foot out of it!)

I'm gonna throw all the lean burn stuff in the trash, most of this motor is heading that way, I want to build a stroker with the block.

just put a point distributer in the car and put the wire in place of the black and yellow tracer wire on the - side of the coil. I have done many of these back in the day and it always worked
