Did you have it magna fluxed, I hope you dont have awierd crack bleeding off oil PSI. I had a 318 that crackedin the lifter galley where the rear inside drivers side plug went in, It was put in too far, and split the block.
I did not have the block magnafluxed. Man I hope thats not the problem! Arno

Oil splashing while looking into the distributor hole is a dead givaway that the plug is not in place. Check it,do you know where it should be?
Maybe splashing was to strong a term. There was oil movement. If one of the rear plugs was missing wouldn't the oil puke into the bellhousing of the 727? There is no sign of oil there. Or is there an internal plug back there that I may have missed?. Arno

Your response confirms things. Remove the distributor. You'll see the end of the lifter galley facing the dist bushing. There should be a plug in that opening on the end of the galley. Spin the pump if you like while looking and you'll see oil pouring out the end.Yes there is a plug in the bellhousing and you should put the plug in the lifter galley THEN install the bellhousing plug. Put a plug in it and you'll be fine.
Thanks! I will check that first thing tommorrow! Arno

this drawing is of a B block, but the idea and location is about the same.
see the passages that come up at the rear of the block? That is where you need to look.
Pretend the dist. is back there.

Thanks guys! What is the easiest access to that plug? Can I get to it by pulling the intake or do I need to pull the trans? Arno
No need to pull the trans. You can get to it by pulling the intake. Still kind of a pain but this is something most people only do once and I guarantee it will never happen again. I needed to shorten an allen wrench so it was about 2" long in order to have the clearance to rotate it though.

Oh yeay definatly... When I did it I got ZERO oil psi, the cracked block gave me about 10-15psi. Thats why I brought up the crack in said plun area of the block. I really hope yours isnt, but mine wasnt repairable very cheaply, thank god mine was a 318. Hope all goes well... Kasey
