The 40 is still waiting patiently. The 47 I need to get fuel tank nuts fabb'ed and Get a hold of the guy with the wheels to set up shipping. I vow to never again deal with this type of seller! Once I get the wheels, I need to get them blasted and then paint them and get new tires. I was going to go with WWWs, but even with a good guy price they will be almost 800 bucks instead of 335 for cheap radials from Discount tire. 465 will do a lot of other stuff......

Right now I'm actively shopping for a cheap local Dakota donor for the '40 Dodge Coupe. If the right combination falls into my lap, I could hopefully be driving it by the end of Summer!
The Model A runs and drives now, it's loud as heck and shoots flames occasionally out of the lakes headers, but getting it going was the goal I set before I started work on the Dodge. Still a little tuning to do and I want quieter exhaust, but it's a turn key car now!
I'm picking up an engine for my '57 Chebby truck this weekend, so I'll have my junkyard runner back in the next week or so. The engine lost a cylinder a while back, and has been idle for a couple months.
I finished the subframe connectors on the Challenger the weekend before the Mopars North of the Gate show, drove my Challenger there (two hours away one way), ran a best of 13.9 @ 99.7 MPH with a stock 440.

Right now all my projects are on hold as I am working with my father-in-law on getting a 24X40 pole barn built for us to work in. As part of that project we have an old 18X60 mobile home that we are deconstructing to use the roof sections for at least two 18*20 car ports on the back side for the tractor, four wheelers, lawnmowers, etc to be stored. So for the projects, we have the 50 dodge 5 window stripped down except for the glass and the instrument cluster. I am starting to pound out the dents and remove the undercoating from the front fenders. But its been at a stand still while we try to find a 4X4 dakota with a manual transmission locally to act as a chassis drivetrain donor. We dont have a bed for the truck so we will likely try to pickup or build a flat bed since its just going to end up a farm truck. I finally found a 2wd Dakota donor for my 1948 Dodge Panel truck, its a 93 so I have to decide if I am going to convert over to the 5 on 4.5 or just keep the 6 on 4.5 on all four corners. There are getting to be more wheel options for the Dakotas so it may work with the 6 lug axles. I dug into the 39 Plymouth over the last two weekends, I hadnt done much with it since I did the trade to get it from a Member here. So I started pulling all the loose parts out of the interior and really giving it a once over. Not as much body work as I had originally thought in the front sheet metal so I am going to build a table to hold the body while I get back to the chassis. Since it already has a dakota front clip (thanks to Gene) I just need to finish grafting the front cross member back on, do alittle plate re-inforcing for the clip and box the rest of the frame. I think I just gonna run the Dakota rear end with leafs so there isnt much modifying left to do on the chassis. So that means I need to get it blasted and painted (once the pole barn is done that is project number one for me). So little movement on the projects until the project of getting the place to work on them is wrapped up. then it will be a lot of and it may not all play out in that order.

Well, I gave "Big Blue" a new coat of paint. I sanded out the brush strokes from the paint job of 3 years ago, patched a rust hole in the corner of the drivers door, did another round of body work to fix the places that bothered me the most. The paint is cheap oil base paint, I sprayed on this round, so in another 3 years I will probably do it again. I can only stand doing body work for a short peroid of time, then its done as far as I'm concerned. Another 3 or 4 rounds of paint and body work and it should look pretty good. Actually it doesn't look too bad this go around, except for a few runs and a few places I saved to do next time. I don't have pictures of the new paint job because its only been done a couple weeks, so here is an old picture. Think of it as being the same color, but smoother and brighter with fresh black trim and several runs in the paint (hey, I'm a welder, not a painter). If I remember, I'll get new pictures up in a day or two. Gene

Not much happening on the 36. Had to fix the parking pawl in the 518. To get to it had to pull the OD unit. To get to that had to pull the trans, To get the trans out had to pull the engine. And of course the front end. All better now, back on the road.

My 37 Dodge PU is pretty much on hold until the new shop gets built (that should only take a couple more years) The picture is from when the truck was in mockup. I do have the engine built now and on the run stand so I can fire it every once in a while. Here are a couple of video, the engine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zkFIowdvfGoand running: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5VEbByTEUc I will probably get around to rebuilding the SB 727 I have for it sometime this fall or winter.

My projuct, lol, egistration expired in 98, last time I drove it.
Engine is sitting on the stand, can't decide if I want to spend the $$$ for headers, make my own, or run manifolds. Still need to decide if I want an auto or stick.
Still have an 8 3/4 to put in it and a new rear suspension, and yadda, yadda, new driveshaft, yadda, yadda, new strut rod bushings, etc.....
You get the idea.
They say there are no such thing as a stupid question. They say there is always the exception that proves the rule. Don't be the exception.

I went to Hot August nights and saw LOTS of Rods. I love the artist rendition that Bruce did, but I have to say, I think I am going old school with this car now. I will still try and use the 5.7 HEMI, but as far as the paint and body work. My and Tyler( moparts- YOUNGUNNER) Have looked at it for hours and I love the old school look, including the door hinges, door handles, ect. So it may still e green, but it wont be shaved and it wont be a zillion hours of perfection--I have no time for that. I want drivers I can beat up, race around in and have fun with.
It may even be green with black fenders and uh----- well who knows.

So, I guess all these posts were to basically write an excuse note for not getting any further along on my 38. I HAD to get some projects out of the way for winter. oh and I didnt post pics of yet another gas pump I did for free for a buddy who has yet to call and thank me.(never again)
they all take time, but I am doing them all to be drivern. The 70 Cuda vert's paint is almost perfect, pro prefect as I did not paint it, except the engine bay and trunk, jams, evt, 10 years ago now.
I have no use for perfect paint job that take so much effort that it wrecks it for me. dont with that.
Lte sface it, you cant see the flaws if your going 100 miles per hour.
Dave
oh, and I am picking up these in the next three weeks. More projects, now that I cant move to Idaho for a few years.

Wow do I feel pathetic . Lawfish how do you find anytime to relax . Last friday I finished welding shut the mounting holes and taillight holes for the rear taillights on my 40. I then finished removing the handle from the 40 plymouth decklid I'm using. Welded up the emblem holes and hammered out and welded up the pry hole they put in the lid. I started to cut out a patch to close the handle holes and promptly sliced the back of my thumb . later shawn

Well, after make these posts this AM, I went out and scratched the finished primer in the truck bed trying to remove it to paint it. After that my compressor strated giving me fits. Its 20 years old and usually works with a second newer 60 gal 5 HP compressor, which broke two weeks ago. I decided I was very irratible and came inside almost immediately after shooting just a basecoat of paint on the front the bed that goes up against the cab. Just to seal it. Now I am inside, resting as I start 6 days straight, all 12 hours days at work. so today is a rest day now. I figure 2 and a 2 1/2 hours on moparts and then its a cigar and a scotch out front sitting next tot he sprinklers. It helps that my wife cut the grass yesterady (18000 sq ft) and now I have some free time for a cigar. But, it snows here in the winter and I can paint, so I try and get that stuff done in the summer. I used to carry 40-60 cases in Detectives, running my butt off. I have now simply transfered that to cars and have actually slowed down over the past three or so years. Dave

Guess I'd better update too then. 40 still waiting, 47 has freshly powdercoated wheels and new tires. Went with blackwalls, since the wide whites were double!!! Drove it to the big swap meet 2 weekends ago, and to the local cruise a week ago Friday. This week was busy work-wise, but got the camp trailer and the 2 parts vans in my name and the trailer registered. Camping tonight... Hope to get started again on the 40 shortly, but projects keep calling my name. There is an A-100 that I'd already have, except it's over in Bigdad country...1044 miles and 16.5 hours away. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=354685 Out of my price range, but this one is neat too. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=385677 For the same money, there is a 69 RR here (moparts). MUST STAY FOCUSED on the 40!!!

I sold the 48 plymouth coupe at Long Beach last sunday so now some bills are paid and there is a little more room around here and I have some $$$$ to finish the interior in Squattie well I did some work this week on the 46 COE PU project, I put the front fender and nose on it and decided that I need to raise the body mounts about 2 more inches because now I plan to put the 5.2efi/518 back in front under the floor soooo the higher the body is the less intrusive the engine will be and if I need to get it lower after its done I could always get dropped spindles I'LL post some pics later tonight, I just came in from shortening the frame 26" I want this one short and I was going to go from 132" down to 100" but my some talked me into 106" he wanted 110-115" so I settled on 106 thats what a ram charger is and I have had a few of them and they worked good for me. well anyway I cut it and welded back together(except for the bottom I'll do that when I raise it up) and it looks pretty short just what I wanted. Ron...

My daily driver '47 Power Wagon is coming along very nicely. Chassis is nearly finished, just one solid day's work left on it to reinstall some of the driveline mounts I painted as well as for doing brake lines and mounting the emergency brake linkage. Cab is painted and clearcoated. My diamond plate aluminum interior is nearly finished, just 4 flat pieces to cut out yet. In another week or so I will be buying the rest of the stuff to finish it like Stewart-Warner gauges, hood emblems, power lift tailgate, and a few other odds and ends. I am working on the bed this week and hopefully by weekend I can put it on. The fuel tank, radiator, and heater core will be ready to pick up from the radiator shop this Friday. And hopefully next week I can finish the engine for it. It will drop together very quickly over the next month and I am trying to have it finished for next month.
