I'm really tired of fighting the headers to change my oil filter and I'm going to relocate it to the motor plate.

I have a Hamburger's spin-on adapter...

...and a Hamburger's oil filter mount...


Now for the the plumbing question. Can I just use the "out" from the adapter to the mount and from there directly to the front of the engine block and plug the "in" in the adapter? It's already drilled and tapped in the front of the block but is plugged right now by a NPT plug.

I'm not really sure if this is the preferred way to do it or if I should route the hose back to the adapter? It would make a much cleaner install if it's possible to route directly to the front of the block...

Any input on this is greatly appreciated!

Yes, that is the main oil feed on the SB and conveniently
tapped on some R-blocks.

Just to make it idiot clear (for me ) ...this is the oil coming from the oil filter and returning to the block? The tapped hole will be the "returning" oil and not the "output" pressure going to the filter?

I don't want to turn the key and have no oil pressure

you could also pull the distributor and drive gear and prime the engine with a priming tool and drill motor before starting the engine.

This is a R3 block install

Tap the pressure passage. ( blue )
Plug the other two. ( red )

Pressure goes to your adapter marked IN

OUT goes to the main oil feed.

Why would I need to plug the hole marked in white?
Wouldn't it just be ok to plug the "in" in the adapter that sits in the original place for the oil filter (see the top photo in 1st post).
Then from the "out" from the new oil filter mount (2nd pic) I would put the line directly to the tapped hole in the front of the block.

By using the hole at the front that gives you the
mains priority oiling(mains first)

I see what you're doing now.

I wasn't paying attention and see the first adapter went on the block.
I thought they were two different variations of the remote filter.

The two ports, I have marked with red, are the same passage so, you'll
need to plug the one on the left anyway, or you'll have an internal leak.

In other words, you will be pressurizing both ends of the system, with only
partial filtration unless, your adapter blocks it. (plugged in OEM system)

I'd leave the block adapter off and plug the two I have marked.
