34-35 degrees total. All in REAL early, might as well be locked out. CHIP

Quote:
So, what are you running for initial and total timing.
My Engine specs 4.15 stroke 9.5:1 HEMI. 250 int 257 exh @50 Hyd roller cam.
I read for that duration of cam 18-20 initial 35 total.
same combo as yours. 32 degrees total, with 34 degrees car slowed down a little. distributor locked out
What are you finding that works?

new Larry Sheppard book says 35* on a stock 426,( but in another chapter it says 32* ) . Then it says you should be looking at 28-32 for the 472-528 motors. The way I read the article, it indicates that the longer the stroke, the less the timing. I set my 4.5" stroke 511 from 35* down to 32*. Runs good , but i cannot say if is quicker or slower. I run about 20* initial Cam is a 244/254 112 hyd flat

Trying to generalize timing settings based off the stroke and nothing else is a bunch of crap. Mine has a 4.5" stroke and runs the best at 34-35 degrees. Any less and it slows down substantially. I tested it from 30-38 degrees back when I first put this motor in the car. And yes I've tried it with more than one timing light. CHIP

This also interests me, my cam is .280@50 and i'm swapping to msd distributor but would like to avoid locking it out, fbo do bushes to increase initial to 24, will this be enough, i run 34 total. Sorry to hijack, just thought this extra info would help everyone. Mick
