I have the same headers but on Edelbrock heads and STILL tight. Bottomline they are $$$ and still rust. UGH. NEXT TIME I will go with manifolds or SS. WHO MAKES SS? I'd pay TWICE what I paid for the TTI's. I think XV makes em but not for torsion bar equiped Mopars. Could just send these guys my set of dented-to-fit (by the bellhousing) TTI's to copy in SS! http://www.stainlessheaders.com/customheaders

Well I went ahead and dimpled them. What paint or selaer can i put on these to prevent rust, etc. I stuck with the standard autolites. I tried a shorty, but I didn't like where the electrode ended up. I can fit a sleeve on there now though.

Thanks for posting that link, I've been hunting around for stainless on line & that website had never come up before.

Whats diff between 409SS and other types. Maybe I could ASK TTI if they can duplicate thier headers outta SS.
I'll contact them today.
Wonder what wall thickness?
400 series stainless is magnetic. it gets it's corrosion resistance from high chromium content, IIRC. it has good workability, weldability. most OEM exhaust systems on cars since the late early 90's are 400 series stainless. the Y pipe on my 5th ave ('86) was 409, had a coat of surface corrosion on it, but still solid as a rock when I took it to the metal recyclers in '07...car spent it's life either in michigan or on the california shore, so it had a fair amount of salt exposure.
300 series stainless is non-magnetic, gets most of it's corrosion resistance from high nickel content. it's more expensive, can be polished, bends ok (not as good as 400 series), somewhat susceptible to thermal fatigue--cracks can develop in welds with lots of thermal cycling, much pricier than 400 series
granted it's not as pretty, but I prefer 400 series for exhaust work. it's cheaper and more resistant to thermal fatigue. it can be ceramic coated if you want it pretty.

Let me know if you find out anything.
I sent an email yesterday asking the cost of a stainless set of headers & was told they'd be around $1300 for 304 SS, & $1100 for mild steel. Too much for my budget, but probably not out of line for custom work. I suppose if you had a car that nobody made headers at all for, it would be the way to go.

I was wondering when you actually post a picture.

Here's a novel idea, let's not throw a bunch of parts at the car hoping it will fix the problem and instead spend a little time diagnosing it first.
Life was a little easier when I was just a wrench.

Wow - guess the angled plugs on my Edelbrocks really helped me there. Never knew.
