Has anyone had engine harnesses made up by Bill Evans, out of Erie,Pennsylvania? I heard he does quality work, and does custom pieces, like MSD control boxes. Any opinions, good or bad,are appreciated! Randy Borawski

YES I have bought 3 harnesses from him, all worked perfect and no issues. I can't say if they are all 100% concorse correct because I don't know. But they work as intended and I highly recommend,

I was happy with mine as well. Plus they are a decent price to boot.

Yes, yes and yes.

Bill has always treated me right and makes a great product.

Whenever I get an engine harness from him, I have him extend and hide the wires for the ECU under the battery tray.

Makes a great product and as mentioned will customize a bit as well!

I've always liked what I've got from them, highly recommend

my A12 superbee harness wire from the bulkhead wasnt crimped properly in one of the wires and it caused my car not to start. it was in the engine compartment side, after going over all the wires we found the culprit.
i emailed bil evans and he said send the harness back, i was hoping for him to say ill send you another one out and then send me back the defective one after you get the new one installed.
oh BTW, its not close to concourse correct.
the ones from Frank Badalson and yearone are better concourse correct.

concourse and CORRECT should NEVER be used in the same sentence

If you want absalute OE correct you'll need original harnesses (NOS or mint used, etc.). As far as reproductions, M&H (sold exclusively through Year One) produces the best I've seen concerning correct original colors and details, but none of them are an exact match to original.

Randy I did run into the same issue as superstockracer , had a connector come off from a bad crimp , called and had them send me another connector instead of expecting a complete replacement harness before returning the other

I also had 3 crimps come loose at the bulkhead connector but I got one last week for another car that looks better. I would chect it at the bulkhead side befor you install it. He replaced the bad one I got from him with a new one and that one has been good for the last 5 years.

Set one on fire the other day, guess the E-Body I was working on has a shorted amp guage which caused the original harness to burn. I am going with M&H this time, the Evans harness had issues with proper wire lengths at the coil which caused other issues with connections.

The funny thing about science is that if you change one miniscule parameter you change the entire outcome to the way you want it.

the Evans harnesses have been around for a long time, I would say they cant be too bad or word would be out to avoid them at all cost in which case they would be gone.

Maybe not the best game in town but I think theres a case of piling on going on now.

i had a evans harness that had 4 connectors fall out of the bulkhead. it was a piece of junk.
i called him and his attitude wasnt good, hes not much of a people person, his attitude at carlisle is i cant be bothered with no personality.
i got mine from yearone and with the 15% discount it wasnt bad.

I used one on my car 3 years ago and I have had NO problems or issues with mine. I bought from Bill based on a freinds recomendation. He has had his for quite a while with no problems.

I use Bill's all the time (at least a dozen or more).
I've had no issues with them, however Bill is a stubborn fart.
Last year at Carlisle I purchased over $1000 worth of harnesses from him and he would even take $5 bucks off....Most vendors would knock 10% - 15% off a large purchase...

I just installed engine/forward/rear harnesses in my 'Cuda. They looked great, fit great and so far are working perfectly. He made me a custom engine harness and got the order to me quickly.
I would buy from him again.

I just ordered one Friday of last week. They were reccomended by a friend of mine, but he did say to check all the bulkhead connections before installing. It should be at my door any day. I ordered it with the Mopar electronic ignition modification. I'm anxious to see how it works. I'll let you know my thoughts when it starts making sparks. Tom

The biggest complaint with Evans' wiring is bad crimps. If you are going to buy any wiring harnesses from any vendor, make sure you do a pull test on all the crimped connectors. If you are afraid of pulling the connectors off, you should be more concerned that they might cause a fire if they are loose. If you run across a marginal crimp, you can always solder the crimped wire.

Note: M&H does the above when they make the harness and it is part of their assembly process.

You should also check the connectors and make sure they fit tightly together. You can do this with a separate test male connector. Just take your test connector and plug it into each female connector and make sure that all the connectors are a snug fit. If any are loose, you can squeeze the contacts closed with a pair of pliers.

While I didn't use them yet I bought a complete harness set for a 71 RR clone I am doin. 4spd. nuetral safety, engine, light and wiper harness's. I will check all of the connections after reading about this but one thing I will say is that he replaced one of the bulhead connectors for me. It was totally different than all of the others and since I spent some $$$ I wanted them to match,I gave it to him at the Nats in Ohio and he made it right...

Don't be scared off by these guys. If you like one guy then use him, but dont scare off someone else based on some random event. As someone said if Evans was bad we would all know to stay away from them. Fact is they have a good product. Maybe not the greatest out there, but go check out the prices of the other guys, maybe they can afford to put on a smile from you guys while taking your hard earned paycheck. I've seen the Evan's at plenty of shows personally and they have always been willing to answer questions. I guess personally doing an all day show out in the hot sun (even with a canopy) has to be tiring on anyone. Dealing with the public is not the easiest job sometime. Shame someone bought a $1000 worth of harnesses without a discount but life is tough sometimes. What would those same harnesses cost from the other guys? Bet it would have been a significant amount. Like I said, buy who you like. If you know so and so personally and always got good stuff from him and they were friendly to you, then go with your gut. But I think being fair to the other guy should be expected unless you personally have some knowledge of some serious poor workmanship. A suspected bad crimp sucks, but who knows maybe the installer was a little too rough.

The only problem I saw with the YO /MH harness is that you had to use that ugly 4 pin ballast resistor that does not look rite on the older cars....OR did they change that part on there harness ?

That's only on the harness modified for electronic ignition.
