i talked to bullet cams today to nail down a good profile. they recommended a 275/283@50-.685 lift/1.6 on a 108. sounds a bit large for my combo, what do you guys think? 408 indy 360-1 flow 312@600/209@600, 12:1 comp, ported indy intake,1 7/8 tti,4500 stall,727,4.10,28" tire, car race wieght 3400. street/strip. current cam is 258/264@50-630 lift on a 108. still uncertain.

Thats the same cam that was recomended for my 414 , 12 to 1 w5 rig with around the same head flow, I was thinking of something around 5* less, but thats just me , I have noting but seat of the pants to go by , we have run 280@ .050 and 260@ .050 my next one will be 270 when I can find a used solid roller, after that I will have one built from what I have learned

i was thinking something like a 268/268 or a 265/270, but i'd really like to try a straight pattern cam next since they are said to make more mid torque.

if you were talking to me i looked at cam card it is 272 278 ground at 106 in at 105.car pulls from hit to higher than i care to rev to. has been 7600 to 8000 rpms and feels it wants more.kind of scared of that much spring pressure with the cam.if you still have indys rockers on it they will break as i know from exp. 1200 dollar t&ds took care of that.

emarine, what was your experience like with the 260 and 280 cams?
fasthawk, thanks for the info. i use nothing but T&D rockers. any other info would be great to have on cams that have worked well in the 408's.
nice car fasthawk, here's mine.

The 280/283 @ 50 cam motion cam had a high power band, good power at 7500 and a little soft on the torque at 5000 , its lift was 645 with 1.5 lsa 107 in at 103, we mud race and went to a bigger tire and the torque down at 5000 became an issue, With a factory 360 block I was trying to build a power band between 5k and 7k so I installed a used comp solid roller 260/262 @ 50 , .630 with 1.5s , 106 in @ 106 ,This cam hits hard @ 5k and pulls real strong to 6700 than starts to fade, the comp cam will pull power into the low 7k range but not in the time frame I need< we only run 200ft, in 250ft the cam is real good , My thoughts are close to yours 268 -272 intake duration with around 4 or 5 degrees more on the exhaust with around 680 lift 108 installed on 104, havent found one close used, when I do we will install and test to see if I have any Idea what I am talking about, this should give me some Ideas for a custom cam I hope

yeah, 268/272 sounds about right for me also. bullet first told me 269/274 which sounded good to me and as big as i would like to go, but he left the phone and came back and told me 275/283 which i think is way more than i would like. i want to keep the r's under 7200. he told me my exhaust port was'nt good enough for a straight pattern cam.

I believe the cam in my 422 is a Bullet with 280/283 and lift of .712/.694. I may be off in some areas. Installed at 104. RyanJ spec'd it for my for a 13to1 motor. Pistons didn't work out and ended up with 11.58to1. With 360-2 heads and intake, 850 Quickfuel, 1 7/8 Hedmans. Has run a best on 6.42@105 in the 1/8th with no tuning. Had some main bearing issues so it is coming back out. The car 60' well but was low to me mph wise. But tuning will help that. Also will mill the heads some to get around 12 to 12.5to1 when putting back together.

Well I was footbraking the car leaving at 3000 and shifting at 7000. Have not had it dynoed. Converter is supposed to flash about 5600, but haven't checked it yet.
