Just got the car out and fired it up to got it out of the garage. It always idles a little rough at start because of no choke. I warmed it up a bit and it just wouldn't hold idle. I opened the hood and removed the air cleaner and saw gas puddles under the the sight windows on the manifold. It is a Holley 750 DP. I cleaned up the gas and was hoping to not have to take anything apart at the moment, so I tapped the bowls and the adjustment screws with a screwdriver handle a few times. The problem seems to have gone away. Just checking to see if there is something else I need to do, or just monitor it and hopefully it's from storage.

Lightly snug up the bowl screws and all of the other fuel connections. Gaskets can get dry and shrink over time. But still keep an eye on it.

You could place a see through filter near the carb to see if your system is contaminated. What type of fuel line are you using at the carb? Pic maybe?
might also want to change the oil and filter as a precuation or at least give it the smell test beer

As a guy who has run a 6bbl engine for over 40 years I can tell you to keep an eye on the holley carb... I've transitioned to the holley blue gaskets and all ethanol resistant needle/seat assemblies as well as the accelerator pump diaphragm..I go many years without issues now....Without those newer components it was a battle every year with gas leaks and the needle/seat assembly O rings giving it up and dumping fuel past them into the engine doing exactly what you're describing..

If, as you say, the fuel leakage was accompanied by rough running, chances are a float valve was stuck and the tapping freed it up. thumbs

The blue Holley gaskets are good ones as are the pink Superformance ones. The Holleys are usually handier as most auto supplies can order Holley parts and have them the next day if they don't already stock them unlike the Superformance gaskets.

Thanks for the replies, I'll get it out again when the rain stops in the next few days. Planning on driving up to the Syracuse Nationals after Carlisle.
