How many Scorpions, Tarantula and rattle snakes have visited you since you move their? (I can remember when Phoenix and most of its suburb were way less densely populated). I took six months of pilot training at Falcon Feild in 1997, my son in Law and Daughter lived in Fountain Hills (8 to 10 miles N/E of Downtown Phoenix) in the early 1990s while he attended one of their automotive trade schools to get his ASE automotive master technician rating on the G.I. bill. My message is that whole area has grown sustainably since then I just delivered some parts to the Queen Creek area, and I couldn't believe how much it has grown, and the traffic was horrible since I was in the area since 2007-2012! The whole area is nuts now, no reason to live there at all! My dad got sent to Phoenix in 1957 to see if he would transfer while he was working for Motorola, but he took a couple days and couldn't see how anyone would want to live there, guess he was wrong...LOL

This is a timely topic for me and will be watching with much interest. I kicked around this idea a number of years back (even posted about it here) but personal obligations prevented it. But now........ with my Mother's recent passing, I'm looking hard at why am I staying here. I'm single, no kids or family tying me down. Last big change before I'm too old? Houston ain't getting smaller and the crime is only getting worse. Heck, the town I'm in now outside of Houston proper had a population of less than 30K when my Mother moved here in the '80's. Now, it's almost at 160K with a majority of that growth having come in the last two decades. What was once a nice little bedroom community is busting at the seams now. As much as the thought of moving excites me, it also terrifies me for a number of reasons (age being one).

Is that Green Valley AZ? Looks nice ... around 3000 feet above sea level ... No, Im more towards Vail area , Corona De Tucson specifically. Basically south east of central Tucson How many Scorpions, Tarantula and rattle snakes have visited you since you move their? grin(I can remember when Phoenix and most of its suburb were way less densely populated). I took six months of pilot training at Falcon Feild in 1997, my son in Law and Daughter lived in Fountain Hills (8 to 10 miles N/E of Downtown Phoenix) in the early 1990s while he attended one of their automotive trade schools to get his ASE automotive master technician rating on the G.I. bill. My message is that whole area has grown sustainably since then Gila Monsters - 3 Scorpions - maybe a dozen with none over maybe 1-1/2 - 2 inches long Tarantulas - maybe 4 or 5 and even then only found during rainy season ( typically very late June thru very early Sept ) Rattle snakes, Those maybe 8-10 tops. Most of them under 2ft Gopher snakes maybe 4 or 5 , with the biggest one maybe 5 ft long and as thick as my lower arm. THAT was a big one

I used to visit my dad in Phoenix back in the mid 80s. Population was around 800k back then and traffic was a bit messy. Just went down a few weeks ago to my grandson's graduation. The place has doubled in size and is over 1.6 million now and traffic really sucks. If you are thinking of a move, spend some time in one of these forums for where you are looking. Think of it like Moparts only for geographic locations - https://www.city-data.com/forum/

^^^ That's happening in Sandpoint, ID: 20 years ago the "best small town in America", but the past several years the old buildings are being replaced with Modernist cubes, the streets narrowed to slow (as in clog) traffic, and the Entitled mpoved in. What was once a very charming old town is starting to look like every other city, and the population has tripled and over-burdened the infrastructure. Plus some "progressives" moved in and are busy with their BS, taking over the local government. Surrounding areas are still beautiful, though.
Like the old Pogo comic strip quote: "We have met the Enemy, and he is Us"...

Meth, opiates and a general pill head mentality was very obvious and it is the dirty south. Conflicts within local sheriffs departments (Jimmy sleeping with Jacks wife) cops on the take and ones who just do as they want as far as enforcement. I traveled all over east of the MIssissippi for work programming industrial robots for automotive and suppliers. Spent a lot of time in TN, MO, GA, AL. I recall watching the news one night while in mid western TN. THREE SEPARATE NEWS STORIES OF DRUGGIES LAUNCHING THIER CARS AND GETTING STUCK IN SOMEONES ROOF!!!!!!!!!. IN ONE DAY! WTH! Detroit SUX but I have never heard of that around here Still I always thought if I ever moved from this toilet it'd be NC, SC, KY or TN. BUT THE WEATHER THERE NOW? The constant rain that we see on the nightly news, like Noah better start building an ark! PS To the post above, and I haven read all, not sure how septic came up but I moved to an island here in SE MI. We have septic. I WOULD NEVER MOVE INTO A HOUSE WITH SEPTIC AGAIN. Might actually be the reason we move eventually. Spent $20k within a year to redo septic except tank. Geniuses built corner of house over tank. Lot to be said for city sewers.

" Lot to be said for city sewers." i grew up in a house with a septic system, and also helped my dad build a new one. the maintenance was always a pain in the a$$ ] had to remove the 4" thick lid without breaking it, getting it pumped out, then reinstalling the lid without breaking it. we also had a well that needed constant attention, as well as having the pump in the basement instead of in the well itself. we had pretty good water, but that pump, as well as another, needed constant attention so it didn't stick in the "on" position, which if not caught in time, would drain the well. then we would have to wait a day or so for the well to refill. luckily, there was a spring handy that we could obtain water from while waiting for the well to refill. not sure if the quality of the on-off pump switches were the cause of the pump sticking in the on position or it was something else, as these switches were mounted on the pump itself. after getting married, i moved to the "city", therefor using it's water/sewage system, and although having to pay for it's use, the work as well as the piece of mind knowing if there is a problem the city will repair it [with the exception of the 15ft section of water and sewer line i am responsible for at the house connection, that was replaced several years back that will now last me the rest of my days] sure makes me a happy customer.
