A friend who's not into the internet, asked me about a source for reman'd ( not rebuilt ) steering boxes. He's doing a 70? Chevy Camper Special.

Redhead steering out of Washington state is a good place. Have seen some bad reviews about Steer and Gear. Borgeson is another possible source since its a Saginaw/Delphi box most likely.

All of the "reman or rebuilt" ones use old worn parts. Redhead used to have a pic of a guy with a line of steering gears on a table he was reusing. If you want tight steering you need 100% new parts. And few to none offer that so you are stuck with what's available or modifying to use something else that is "new".

Rockauto.com has new and rebuilt, power and manual. I put a new cardone box in my '93 Dodge D 300 and have been very satisfied with it.

Still, the rest of the front end has to be in decent shape and the alignment set properly or it won't go straight down the road even with a new box.

I've had good luck with a company called Midwest.
Coincidentally they're within "seeing distance" of midWAY airport Bedford park IL on that side of street, Chicago across the street.
