We had anticipated there were issues with the cowling, we took a wait see what the stripping finds to choose our direction. I wonder how many would suggest to repair or replace the upper cowl panel. It is a repop part welded on top of the old in places, behind the old in places and generally installed like and ass monkey on crack. pass side

Out with the nasty scabbed in part. The window channel was original to the car the replacement cowl was cut and lap welded in the window channel. I had to grind through, two sets of welds , the OG spot welds and the rosette welds the asshats did. It was an aftermarket part but installed very poorly, plenty of bondo covering the [censored] welds. Once it was off i cleaned everything up did a few repairs and alot of prep to install a new AMD upper cowl.
The gray is 3 coats of POR15 to create a complete continuous seal. The bottom side of the upper cowl was scuffed and shot with enamel paint. Test fit pic, shows the brackets removed and the inner fender hinge mount bracket missing the upper tab that spots to the top of the cowl. I began the install by spot welding the windshield channel. The spot welder weighs >40 lbs and is near impossible to hold, maneuver and weld correctly so a couple ratchet straps were my make shift perfect solution.

Thank you, trying to do as much as we can and still keep a budget in mind. We are considerate of choosing where to spend the funds. labor, parts, or combination of the two for smartest use and what the car really needs for a solid long lasting build that will add to its value.
This car is definitely not being restored as an investment or to sale, but reality is eventually it will have a number. For all piratical purposes it certainly will be 100% better then anything that rolled off the assembly line.

Was able to find a 72-74 Barracuda fender to use as a donor for the core support to headlamp bucket area. There were issues with a couple of the weldnuts so those needed to be replaced and the leading edge was severely beat and broken. there was a bit of work with this fender but I still think we are better off than using a repop fender.

here is the donor and the patient and end result you can see the differences and modifications in the headlamp bucket area. The support bracket needed is the same for 70-74.

If that's a 240volt welder, will do lots of areas of a car. Various tongs are also useful. Yeap: they are a bi-otch to manuever, as I have a Tenca unit.

Installed the front clip to get alignment and all the parts to work with each other. The fenders of these projects get stored, stuff laying on them them, laying on other things, generally getting moved from place to place, bent twisted tweaked and then you weld patches on them they move even more. I set passenger side door gap, had to adjust the AMD valance, the attaching brackets were off by a good amount and moved the center one altogether.
