see i knew all those fancy electronics would become an issue DETROIT -- A widening global shortage of semiconductors for auto parts is forcing major auto companies to halt or slow vehicle production just as they were recovering from pandemic-related factory shutdowns. Officials at Volkswagen, Ford, Fiat Chrysler, Toyota and Nissan all say they have been hit by the shortage and been forced to delay production of some models in order to keep other factories running. >> https://abcnews.go.com/Business/wir...rces-automobile-production-cuts-75140296

I’ve been working in a fab for a few years now, and one big bottleneck lately is cleanroom equipment delays—some of it tied to process steps like buffered oxide etch. If you're curious, here's a solid overview of what's involved: https://www.modutek.com/wafer-processing/wafer-etching-process/buffered-oxide-etch/. Process steps like that are way more impacted by supply chain hiccups than most folks realize.

Cant believe all the car companies that think they are going to go all electric. Unless they plan on mining asteroids I don't know where they think they will get the materials for rare earth magnets and lithium batteries?!?!?! There is only a finite amount of that stuff and a new report just said China is NOT taking new orders or customers for their raw materials. Maybe I shouldn't have sold my horse This cuts both ways. China watchers say that we are one of, it not the biggest customers for those minerals (and other items as well). China needs to sell them at least as much as we need to buy them. They predict that China will sell to 'other customers' who may well in turn sell to us. So, in the end, more costs and delays will likely come. But China will sell because they need to. And we will find a way to buy because we need to. .
