I’m putting together some original six pack carbs that I have collected over the years. A lot of these carbs have had parts changed through the years I’m sure. Looking at my 340 carbs, I’m pretty sure the only number on the center metering block is 6610. I’ve got multiple sets of those with that number. It’s my 69 440 center carb that I’m not sure of. I forgot to look at my NOS 70 440 4376 auto and my restored 4376 original to my Superbird, so that one I can probably find out. So I guess the 69 440 carbs are the only ones I’m not sure of. Can anyone confirm the 69 carbs for me?
Finally, does anyone have a chart as to what size holes are in the metering block by the number on them?

69 1/2 block # 6170,70 340 # 6610,70 BB # 6020,71 # BB 6105.
340 metering plate # 41,front and rear,
69 1/2 plate # 6178 front,# 6180 rear
70 BB plate # 34 front,# 35 rear
71 BB plate # 35 both front and rear

Are you referring to metering plate or block on on hole size ? I have a Holley chart with all numbered metering plate sizes but some are not consistent with the actual hole size when compared to an original installed plate with the same number.

Thanks, Bill. The outboard plates are easily measured and I have enough of those to figure out the correct size hole. The center metering block is what I need. They may not have published those numbers since some are internal. I’m short some center carb metering blocks so I’d like like to find some replacements for those. Your info helps me out. I’m going to call Holley again and order some more parts.

Bill is spot on with the front and rear plates nunbers and sizes not matching new stuff. I will throw this out there, a block for a double pumper with the same throttle plate and venturi size works good on a center, not sure I have seen any published internal idle and emulsion tube specs. I look for old ones at swap meets and the bay that you can see the idle restrictions on, then you can adjust it.

Wow. Wasn’t that long ago it seems. Other times it it seem like forever. I’ve come along way since then and bought and sold many carbs. After Bill passed, I helped his widow and nephew distribute all the carbs that belonged to other people. I eventually bought his few remaining carbs, parts and some tools and equipment he used. After buying so many carbs and examining them, you realize all the subtle changes in the six packs throughout the years. Now with Holley not making anymore six pack carbs or parts, I’ve had to start modifying metering blocks to work in other applications. I’ve also found many carbs that have flaws or incorrect size holes that got missed in quality control and still ran. I’ve found idle bleeds not drilled, holes not tapped and even accelerator pumps not working on brand new carbs.

But I think of Bill all the time. I use his Swiss Army knife that someone gave him to removing gaskets on almost ever carb I work on. I’ll be using it for quite awhile, I hope. I’ve got plenty to do. Lol. Yes, that used to be a pool table at the shop.
