Funny - and a bit confusing - that there are 2 tracks named Firebird.
Looks like they had some nostalgia stuff displayed & running.

I'll bet money that those pictures are of the old Firebird drag race track south of Phoenix ,AZ now known as Wild Horse, not the Firebird track north of Boise, ID

Safe bet ! Our Firebird isn't open yet, Bill lives a LOT closer to Chandler AZ, and there's a National event there this weekend.

Man those guys get there early, I thought the race was last weekend. I saw all the race trailers on the I10 early last week when I was leaving Phoenix

On TV, it looked like it fried Capps' helmet camera - NOT a good sign - but the wall hit was painful to watch.

Again, I say, it's time for softer walls at dragstrips near the big end.

Firebird in Phoenix is back to being called Firebird. It was due to close permanently and the NHRA saved it, along with sponsored contributors to the tracks there. I'm sure there's news articles about it. Here's one:

Do you know how NHRA saved that track? Long Term lease or purchase from the tribe? Is the racing boat lake, venue, still being used?

NHRA says the fans saved the track, they turned out in large numbers for the last race. Sold out at least one day this year.

My understanding is that the lake has been drained but no other information about it or future boat racing plans.

They made an announcement on Sunday during pre race festivities that the track and city / county had signed a long term deal with NHRA

As for the boat racing part,,,nothing was mentioned


This was the 1st time Ive been to an NHRA event in probably 25 years , OR more.

In Nostalgia funnycar a local Tucson boy also went to final round

TV broadcast showed the lake, still pretty full of water - though the water was a pretty sickly color.
