I have seen mention of the P5 HEMI mounted on the R4 block. Unfortunately, trying to find much more than parts listings is a bit of challenge.

What do people know about this combo?

Going to be taking a new Challenger and building a drag car and am thinking of either a 7 liter R4/P5 or R5/P7 set up

I don't think you can get 430" in a 9" R-4 block.

I can't help but, Patterson, CFE and Jeff @ Modern Cylinder Head
would be places to start asking questions.

Member sixpackbee might be able to point you in the right direction too.

The heads are in limited supply as far as new casting go, unless Mopar has started producing them again. The R4 blocks have been on back order for the last 5 years or so. As already has been stated, you will struggle to get more than 400 cubes using a R4 block, although a XR block could be ordered without lifter bores and blank decks.

CFE, Slawko or MBE would be where I would start looking into cylinder heads. Intakes are sheet metal only, I have not yet seen a cast intake for one.

If building from new parts, you'll have over $60K in one of these combos. They have the potential to make over 1000hp N/A, but it comes at a price.

Jim Scortino has run one of these engines I believe, maybe he will chime in
AL....

We currently have a PSI screw blown HEMI and an R3-W8, but are looking into doing a P-5 with a tall, blank XR block and MBE heads/intake.

We havn't run a P-5 head, but it looks like it would be an interesting combo.

Scott Gove SS|AM Car runs a P5 motor and said it did not make much more power than his W-8 motor. Also one of the Vignona brothers runs a P5 motor in comp. eliminator by I believe Eaton.
