OK, Another insurance rant:

Policy Current year(23-24) Renewal (24-25) Pct. Incr Notes
Home 3039.00 4700 55% Preceding year increase 35%, that's 90% in two years 🙄😳😳😳🤬🤮
Umbr 202.00 370.00 83%
Cars 1180.00 1405.00 20%
Totals 4421.00 6475.00 46.4% Overall increase

Ok so we all know the "reasons claimed" for the r-p--ng of the middle class which I say is mainly BS for a number of legitimate reasons. So I sold my 3 year old 2021 Silverado garage queen with just over 5K miles on it and bought a 2014 Ram with 63K miles. It will likely see similar use (less than 1000 miles a year).
The insurance on the Ram was quoted a 300.00 MORE PER YEAR than the Silverado 😳

It's the same size vehicle, can do just as much damage in an accident in which I'm at fault, is worth less than 1/2 what the Silverado was should it be totaled. No accidents ever, last ticket was ~ 25 years ago (14mph over), no other claims. How can the above be justified?

The house had 1 small claim 2.5 years ago due to a dishwater leak. no other claims in the last 15 years.

MEDICARE/ Health insurance:
Have had Aetna for a number of years including prior to Medicare. Yesterday it was announced the the medical organization I have been with for 30 years is no longer part of the plan I am on effective TODAY.
BUT I can go see some other shcmuck who knows nothing about me or my history. The Plan and COVERAGE I signed up for was to go from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31st. So my question is How and Why are they allowed to change the included organizations mid stream????
Supposedly they could not reach an agreement on next year. OK so continue through this year as signed up for and drop them next year. At that time i can choose another insurance plan.

We all know the political side of things so PLEASE REFRAIN from such that will get this moved to the unmoderated forum.

NOT A CHARGER's inputs/ comments are requested whether I agree with them or not wink
TIA beer

I am not looking for an argument but rather some logical reason why a 10 year old truck worth 1/3 as much would cost 300.00 more to insure with all things considered.
And while I don't always agree with your statements but I DO respect your knowledge on the subject 🍻

It could be that the replacement truck has a higher claim frequency, or higher repair costs, or another actuarial (basically, risk assessment) issue.
Yes, that seems counter-intuitive; but picture a scenario like insuring a GTO vs a Temoest.
I just got a substantial premium increase myself, being October is the anniversary date of my policies (home & the daily vehicle being with the same insurer).
If your vehicle change coincided with the renewal date of your policy, that might explain the bump-up.
In any case, I recommend a call to your agent for an explanation & review of coverage.
As stated elsewhere here regarding insurance, claim costs are up, and we're all apparently taking on some of that load.

thanks for the reply, I did take a good hit at renewal time on everything as well ( numbers in the original post).

I did call 3 other companies today and had them run the same vehicles (there are 2 on the policy). 1 quote with the Silverado, another with the Ram. In all 3 quotes with the Ram they were 3-400 less confused
So in thinking about it, I wondered if the agent ran the quote without the "Good Driver Discount" which is supposed to be 40%. If so, that would jack the premium up.
I sent him an email so I should know tomorrow if that's the case. beer

The way I see it, companies that do insurance work are sticking it to the insurance companies. Be it body work, roofing your house, or at the hospital, anyone caught charging an insurance company more than they'd charge an individual paying cash should be in jail. That's just me though, but just because the insurance companies have deeper pockets, doesn't mean that that the money doesn't come from you and I.
