On a car with a stick, how is cruise disengaged?
Where is the momentary kill switch?
I know on an auto trans its part of the brake switch on the pedal.
Is it a the same on a stick? Or is it a seperate switch on the clutch pedal arm?
Or does it have to have one on each pedal so that either/or will undo the cruise?

If we're talking say '80's on up then I still have a 5-speed manual VW Jetta GLI with cruise control and yes hitting the brake pedal and pushing in the clutch will shut the cruise control off. Then the other way is by turning the cruise control off at the switch of course. That's on the VW which I would assume acts like every other vehicle as I think it is a NHTSA FMVSS (SAE) mandated function?

I'm considering a truck build, original was a 727 and I'm looking at changing to a stick ..

My 95 D3500 5 speed has a switch on the clutch and the brake pedal. So there are factory parts.

When I converted my 87 Diplomat to stick I didn't worry about it. Never had an issue. But I don't fart about shifting either.

When I added cruise to my 05 Neon I used the factory kit, I don't recall anything special in the kit for the clutch pedal, but that was almost 20 years ago so who knows. Well, I looked it up, seems there is already a switch on the clutch pedal and the PCM takes care of addressing it.

I have both an 80's and 90's Mopars and the brake pedal is the controller. On my 95 Neon if you push the clutch in while engaged the engine will rev up, so the cruise is still working. Also in the 90's they started putting a coast function on the controls, usually it is in concert with the set button.

For a retrofit you'll need a clutch pedal switch like the brake switch.

I bought n '89 Caravan brand new with a 2.5L/5-speed. If you lugged the engine (going up the hills in CA in 5th) the cruise would kick off, and if you pushed in the clutch, it would free rev for a moment then cut off. I installed aftermarket cruise on my '98 Mini Cooper, and buried in the manual, it says if the revs vary from the the set-point by more than 10% (IIRC) it'll cut off.

I'm working with a 83 D250. Currently a bare frame, truck was a 318/727. I have a 90 cab that i want to put on that frame, and not sure of engine, (thinking SB stroker at this point) but I am considering building it back up with a stick instead of an auto.

On my 87 Conquest TSi with 5-speed manual, and has the speed control feature...

You are going to need to add the clutch pedal switch if you want the cruise to drop out when you push in the clutch pedal. The other option would be to step on the brake pedal to drop off the cruise before you push in the clutch pedal or the motor will try to maintain speed with the clutch pedal depressed.

Back in the old aftermarket cerise control days, there used to be a bead chain connecting the brake and the clutch pedal.That chain was under tension when both pedals were up, and a switch was attached to the chain. When either pedal was depressed, the chain went slack and that turned off the cruise control.

You can just hit the "cruise off" button before you push in the clutch pedal, avoids making a vehicle behind you think you're stopping or worse yet brake checking them.

If you turn off the cruise, you will need to turn it back on then reset the speed to make the cruise function. If you step on the brake pedal for a split second, all you need to do for the cruise to work is hit "resume".

if the guy behind you thinks you are brake checking him if you tap on the brakes once, he probably needed to be brake checked anyway. At least he should know if your brake lights light up that you are slowing down. If you shut off the cruise, or hit the clutch pedal on something with a clutch switch, he may not realize you are slowing down.

Personally, I would like the warning that you are slowing down the flash of the brake lights would provide.

It's so easy to turn off the cruise control and resume without taking your right foot away from the throttle pedal and I'm not talking about left foot braking. All done by hand. Wife's car has a small lever that you just push forward and the cruise off but in standby, pull the same lever backwards and that's resume. No brake lights which I don't care if it's not an issue but it is for me. Whenever I see any brake lights I now have to be on guard as to why and so I don't want to be "that guy" or driver that is just "turning off the cruise control" or is there debris or a deer or a disabled vehicle up ahead?
