i have a set of new BB Victor heads in the shop and thought i would pass on a little info...

the first thing is, while the catalog states these heads come with semi-finished guides and no valve job, this set i have has the guides already properly sized, and the seats cut the same as what you'd get with a set of RPM heads.
they had seals on them, and the guides lubed already.
for the most part....they "could" have been assembled and run as they were.

i touched up the valve seats, checked the guide sizing, back cut the valves, and did a little tweek on the ports to see how they would respond to the most basic of prep work.

here's how it turned out:
tested on a 4.375 bore

OOTB:

basic clean up of entire exhaust port, blend relief cut into chamber, blend CNC'd intake port opening into runner, blend intake bowl to seat, sand roll intake short turn.

the heads come with spring pockets at around 1.740 diameter, so a spring cup will be needed to locate the spring.
with a spring cup, a race type Ti retainer and std height locks, the installed height comes in around 1.900....so unless there is ample thickness available to lower the spring pad, the spring choices will be somewhat limited.

the guide clearances as they were OOTB on this set of heads was right at .0015 exhaust/.0012 intake.

unlike an EZ or SR head, these are really more of a true std port size head, where as the EZ/SR heads have the roof raised beyond the port opening so turning them into a MW size port is relatively painless.
on these heads, you'll have to take quite a bit of material out of the roof to make them a true MW sized runner(it looks like it will be similar to what you have to do to a B1-BS intake port to make it into a MW sized head).

other than the 260cc CNC Chapman stage 6's, this is the best flowing OOTB std port opening head that ive tested.

i "assume" the retainer was a +.050. having gotten to mess with a set do you like them?

Dwayne, are you gonna try and open them up to max wedge size? would be interesting to see what they would flow compared to the EZs.

Sure is nice to know that i coulda saved thousands of $$$ if i woulda waited awhile
They basically out flow my b/s's basically ootb and mine are a max wedge port

BTW, what does the air movement sound like on the bench?

It sounds like these will be some pretty decent heads and a step up from Edelbrock's RPM heads. However, the flow numbers you got are much lower than on the Hughe's web site.

Does it have a lot of meat left in the port walls for making them bigger all around?
If so, they would make a good CNC candidate (to keep labor costs down removing all that metal).

Rocker arm offset and push rod clearancing are likely to need attention in any build.

Well its nice getting some real world numbers from a reputable head Porter LOL

I think the addition of another head for us is awsome news. I bet these will fit the bill much better than the RPM's on the more popular stroker kits people are using now.

So can we expect 20+ more cfm with a Max wedge window like the SR's etc? Also what was the intake runner volume on those?

these particular heads are getting their port work done by their owner, who has a flow bench, but no seat or guide equipment.
so, my job was to simply prep the guides and seats.
he allowed me to "play" with one set of ports a bit just so i could see how they would respond to basic prep work.
i did a minimal amount of work, so i'm sure he'll do at least what i did....if not more.

i'm pretty impressed with them for a std port head, but i'm not sold on them for a MW application just yet.
they would have to turn out to be pretty easy to get to MW size, and make noticably more power than the available MW sized heads before i saw myself recommending them over a few of those other heads for a MW port size application.
however, i'm sure the CNC shops will be able to offer a pretty reasonably priced MW sized port version, but if you have to do them by hand, i dont see it being particularly cost effective......unless they proved to really out-power some of the other MW sized stuff out there.

an Indy EZ-1 comes as MW size, has std location exhaust ports, and doesnt need odd-ball intake rockers....so IMO, those are the most "bang for the buck" in the MW sized catagory.

i'm sure at some point i'll have an opportunity to do a dyno comparo between some Victors and some of its competitors.....which should help clear things up in terms of the cylinder head pecking order.

also, i was wrong in my original post about the installed height.
after the seats had been re-cut, the installed height was 1.950-ish with a CV 515 Ti retainer, and 1.900-ish with a Comp 741 steel retainer.

FastOne, the ports sound very quiet on these heads, and are quite stable as well.
lots of height on the short turn, and its laid back pretty far.

ported 906's were great until B1's came out.

I realize it But......It never fails
And i guess they kinda have their woes as well with rockers and all
looks like Indy has really set the standard as much as i hate to say it !!!
What do ya do
We cant keep bucking progress on these heads nowadays the technology is getting VERY good to say "well I have a set of 906's or 915's that'll out flow those "!! well.............

Those #s are alot better then the OOTB B/S #s, but that said, I dont think the "full port job" flow will be that much different. 350 to 360 for the B/S and probably 360 to 370 for the Victors. So, i would'nt trade the Brodix heads in for the Victors for only a few CFM.

Thx for the info Dwayne.

From what I have seen thus far, I'd still opt for a EZ-1. Your #'s for OOTB EZ-1's were exceptional.

I'm still convinced that Eddy will team up with Chapman for a CNC version of these heads...probably why they are so similar (again, from what I've seen pics of) to the Stg VI's in many ways.

If somebody knows they're building a 500" combination right from the start, they should skip these standard-port heads and go right to a MW head.
