According to the info below the E body axle is only just over 1 1/4" narrower than the '71 and newer B body one. If you could find a pre '71 B body axle you would be almost 3" narrower. That shows all 62-70 B body 8-3/4 rears as the same width. Aren't 65-67 narrower? i'm almost positive the 65-66 rears are an inch or so narrower than the 68-70 rears. i know for a fact the 66 rear i installed in my 64 belvedere post car was an inch plus narrower on each side than the original keyed axle rear was. also, i believe the 64 rear is wider than the 62/63 rears, but i don't know by how much. that chart has been around for years, and has been complained about being wrong for as many years as it has been out there. I have an old Mopar Performance Chassis book. It still groups the axles as above (B Bodies '62 - '70). Leaf spring centre lines and axle widths (flange to flange) are the same as above.

The wheel/tire width will be limited by how much room you have.
Narrower/wider rear end won't help you in that respect. Would just change the offset. (to center whatever wheel/tire combo will fit)
Thank you, that's what I was originally thinking, but wanted to confirm. Thinking the Dr DIff )Cass) inboard kit would work nicely with this rear. https://www.doctordiff.com/71-72-b-body-offset-spring-hanger-shackle-kit.html I just got his A Body kits in.the mail Monday. Was here in 3 days and kit looks great. Well made and powder costed too.

I've sent Cass a couple I messaged Dr diff, so hopefully he can get back me if his kit would be a bolt in or if I need to cut off the perches.

Here's a 71 factory 603222-1 B dana and a strange S 60 E body dana side by side. Hard to tell from the picture but 275-60-15 would rub on the wheel lip with the B dana and not with the E Did you swap in that rear to a 1971/72 b-body?

No The b-body dana was in my 70 Cuda when I bought it. Since that dana is a trac lock and I'm running 600hp it wasn't safe for that HP. Since it was a rare factory dana I was better off selling it and using the funds to buy the stronger S60 for an E-body. So I took the S-60 off the pallet put the b-body dana on it and shipped it to Canada where a member did install it in a 71 hemi charger.
