I’ve need one for years and don’t plan on stopping on my motor builds soon so I think I need a good tool. Ive used and old hand crank version but that can take off too much in a hurry. I’m looking for electric powered with a micrometer guage. Anyone have a favorite or one not to buy?

Goodson makes a quality ring filer. Not cheap though.

This is not what you are looking for, but amazing enough it is the BEST ring filing tool I've used so far - as far as the 'nothing fancy' classification for a DIY folk goes anyways! lol

So this is a Dino Campolito ring filer, so simple to use and so freaking REPEATABLE!!! All my rings where precisely cut to exactly the dimensions I needed, and produced a very square (ring end to ring end) result once in the bore.

He has a US Patent for this thing, see attachment.

Mine also up wrench scope twocents
I've had it a long time and used it a lot, it comes with a extra grinding wheel, Allen wrench to change it and a dial indictor to measure how much you have ground off of each ring as your working up scope

Summit has one that looks just like the Goodson but less than half price.

In the old days, my buddy Mike had the old crank ones he used pretty often. I went over to his place and he had a craftsman drill hooked up to the handle and was fill fitting some rings for a 383 he building. That was 1993. Thinking about it, he probably still has it.

I got mine from eBag, and you're gonna tear up what you read next: $5, although that was back in 2013...the Campolito shop was really super about this because the eBag buy was just the jig and I was missing the shim set (that's how you set the distance you need to file), they shipped it free of charge!

The Powerhouse company was selling this thing for a while as POW105080, but looking now I haven't been able to find it anywhere.

I wasn’t referring to your post. I meant not available new.
Now I see it on eBay

Well, I ended up buying the one from Summit for $700. It is great to use. It sets up easy, is repeatable, very accurate. I had about .015 on each ring to trim so it took awhile by hand. This saves lots of time.

I just bought the 'cheaper' Summit brand filer. It was 305$, it gets spun by your makeshift hand drill and has no dial indicator (so it's more affordable) I retrofitting a cheap magnetic base indicator holder. Still was a learning curve to it all. But it was an improvement over the old hand crank tool IMO.

I have the Total Seal product and like it a lot.

However the Goodson is very highly rated as well.
