I have to wonder if it isn't the movie production company that bought it...
Lets face it, these days when movies have a starting budget of $20 million them buying the car for $1 million and then selling it later after the movie is out for even more because it's now a movie car....

shock (and maybe a little $$ from a certain manufacture's marketing department that has a model of the same name to sell.......)

A guy named Ryan Tarheel claims he is the new owner.

All here on the Supercar Registry.......a pretty good read

Ryan Snyder, a collector from Bradenton, Fla., was the buyer and said that one of the reasons he bought it was to continue sharing it with fans at shows rather than seeing it get hid away in a collection.

If the buyer is happy paying roughly 3x value of the car, good for him. Wish I had that type of money to burn.

The story is BS and made for good theater.

I read what buyer said in that thread. He made it sound like he takes hyped up story with a grain of salt. He liked the car, said documentation was good, he thought car was rare and unique, so he bid up and now owns it. He also said heavy stock e-body is not going to set any drag strip records he understands its not really a win street race legend. But I bet he gets a smile shifting that 4 spd listening to that Hemi rumble.

Must be nice to throw that kind of coin around for a toy to play with lucky guy.

I heard of this car, sans the street racing lore, in the late 80's. I believe that it is a very cool and worthy car to still be in existence in the year 2023. It checks a lot of boxes and would be a great addition to anyone's garage, regardless of the sales price or backstory.

The resto started: Nov 2004, now its 2024 and its 95% finished. I can't believe it is the same car I started with.

I look at it this way - The car was well promoted with a good story line that had all the right elements for marketing! Its a rare car and worth some decent coin - the rest of the price was for the marketing - and in the end if buyer was comfortable with his purchase then so be it! I don't see any fraudulent statements - just some really good bench racing - story telling! The former owner was an upstanding gentleman and I think that added to some credence to the story being told. The car probably was not super fast back in the day in Detroit - but running the streets back then it was probably in the top 20% of production cars of the day and that was the majority of what was racing on the streets.

Probably a “roll racer”. Most Hemis are a dog. Especially from a dead stop on the street.

I imagine any street racing was a pick your battle for the Ghost. Next to the Silver Bullet GTX, you pull away slowly or take a side street, stock 396 Chevelle, let’s go!

I don't buy his deal, nobody just throws a million dollars at a 300k car. People don't get to be millionaires throwing money around foolishly. He knows that the car is going to be in a movie and will probably sell it for double what he paid for it after the movie hits the big screen.

Exactly, it will then have the provenance of being at the center of a movie even if it's actual history of being a street racer is total BS.

Along with the Boss 429 woof woof.

You had to get away from the stock ignition tune up setting on the hemi. 440-6 cars as well. They ran a bunch better with more initial timing on them. nasty smog regs. LOL

Claimed FAST and the Curious, Did it Really Happen (the movie).

If a movie is ever made just wait and see how many people come out of the woodwork to claim they were part of that history that haven't come out yet.

You know when I got my '69 Road Runner back in April of 1969 I street raced a lot of cars from stop signs to traffic lights to just driving down a 4-lane highway. Out of the hundreds of cars I "raced" maybe a couple of handfuls knew I was racing them. Pulling away from a traffic light and the guy next to you in his station wagon or delivery truck that decides that he's going to see if he can stay with you for the next twenty feet as you pull away from the light is NOT a drag race laugh2 But I did win all or most of those "drag races" that Road Runner was damn quick. Hmmmmm I wonder if I can get it into the National Registy and maybe a movie? wink

I totally agree. I had a great looking gal in pass seat and I used to tell her when to look at the other driver (as I watched for the yellow in opposing traffic). I would get the jump, did I win? Well ya,but did I prove anything?
