2007 5.9 CTD. Anybody have issues removing and reinstalling the trans collateral link quick disconnect couplers?

Are you using the disconnect tool?

If the diesel uses the same trans cooler lines as the up to 04 gas trucks, the quick disconnect is the same setup as the fuel quick connections, but is a larger diameter then the fuel line. Back when, if you bought the quick connect kit you got 2 plastic tools, the smaller one for most fuel connections was 5/16", and the larger one was for 3/8" line diameters. The larger one worked for the transmission lines on the gas V6 & V8
trucks. The V10 and the diesel may be a larger diameter.

I've found that often the connections on the trans cooler lines needs to be cleaned really well with carb cleaner or brake clean before attempting to use the disconnect tool. It seems the area collects a lot of dust/dirt/small stones and the tool doesn't work well until that stuff has been flushed away from the connection and the line near the connector. The transmission connectors don't like to release evenly and won't come apart if it is not evenly released.

I suspect that if the connection isn't releasing, its probably not releasing evenly. That may be caused by debris build up, or the crappy angle you have to work at. Sometimes rotating the tool around the line helps, after everything has been hosed clean.

Update. Finally got them fixed. Ended up taking it to a shop. Turns out the quick disconnect has been a problem for years, mainly a quality issue. The cooler I have is OE and even the ultra expense OE couplers wouldn’t work. They went through several brands before finding line couplers that worked.

Well, that pretty much sucks. And just another feature we will all get to deal with as this stuff gets older. Crap old OEM parts, and carp whatever we can get our hands on in the future. I'm sad to say that its not bothering me a lot to be towards the end of this playing with cars thing. Its been a fun 55 or so years this far though.

All started with the shop that changed out my rad. They really screwed the pooch on this one. The tool that put everything back together screwed up the cooler by trying to force the mounting tabs into the mounting clips. Turned out that’s caused a small tear in the cooler. Add to that the stock original line couplers probably wouldn’t go back on so they forced them on then crimped them with channel locks. I also found two lube points where the grease was bone dry. Just plain lazy and dick’d up work.

Lots of screwed up work coming out of a lot of "shops" these days. Seems that very few really care much anymore. The current trend seems to be "Get all the money we can, we might never see this chump again." Must be so many "customers" to sucker, that they no longer have to be concerned about anyone coming back.
