Don't know the answer to that, but here's what engine builder Nick Panaritis of Nick's Garage on YouTube says about the quality of them. Actually he's talking about a 383, but he also mentions 440 and probably means all Mopar engines with stamped rockers, including 340. Their were two company that use to furnish all the U.S. automaker lifters, Johnson and the other one that I can't remember their name now went bankrupt back in the 1990s after all the U.S. OEM car and truck motors switch to hydraulic roller lifters shruggy

Mr.Cab Racing and winning with Mopars since 1964. (Old F--t, Huh)

He talks about ROCKERS at that time slot, no mention of lifters.

Mr. P, what's the reason for the question of who made the lifters back then ?

Thanks for the info/replies.

JohnRR, im just doing a little project with oem parts like I did long ago and checking and using the best most consistent oem parts. I had a 340 that ran better then most others stock 340-s did and still put thousands of fun miles on it.

I thought/think these are oem quality here in the pic.

A little known fact is that the early 68 340's had valvetrain issues due to the factory using 318 rockers. The backside of the rocker did not completely clear the top of the retainer and spring. Sometime in late 68 the issue was corrected by grinding the backside of the rocker for clearance. The issue caused the motors to lay down a bit above 4500 or so RPM. We ground many a rocker but there was always an interference mark that took multiple attempts to gain clearance. Can't remember the T/ MPH improvements but they were quite apparent wink
