My black plastic charcoal canister was spray bombed silver at some point. Any suggestions on how to strip it without damaging the plastic? I tried using brake fluid but that only softened it up a little.
glass bead blast, under the lowest air pressure that removes the paint. then clear coat to make it shiny again.
i THINK there is a new basting method, vapor or something like that, that damages less. this would be better than glass beads.
SEM also makes bumper paint stripper to strip paint of plastic bumpers. i myself wouldn't use any solvent on a plastic charcoal canister. this will probably mess up the plastic.

That's fairly tough plastic. Spirits won't hurt it, if it's enamel paint. Forget blasting it; will wreck the finish. Lacquer thinner may work, but check a small area first. I wouldn't use acetone or such, may attack it. Just wipe some solvent in a small area, if the plastic softens or smears, you know it's wrong type.
Charcoal started falling out of it so I cut the bottom off with a thin blade in a reciprocating saw. I think it will glue back together and look good. I rubbed a little acetone on it and it removed some paint. I tried soaking it in acetone for a few days and it barely did anything. Going to try oven cleaner next.
