Thinking about changing over to petronics distributor. Do I still need a ballast resistor? Likes? Dislikes?

I haven't used their full distributor, but I have used their electronic ignition kit for the factory points distributor on multiple 318's and it has worked great and been in service for years now with no issues.

The conversion kits worked awesome last time I used one, and I have had several.

I saw that the new ones have a multispark deal as well.

I didn't ever have any problems. Easy to install but you may have to ream the hole so the extra wire will fit.

Be CERTAIN you have a steady 12 volts. Be damn certain. I had one that worked great but crappy out when hot. Figured out that the voltage dropped when things got hot under the hood. Fixed that and it ran great.

I want my fair share

I used their conversion kit (they hadn't started selling their distributors yet) on my Dad's Chevy. Super easy install and has been working great for years.

I have a plug and play Pertronix billet on my 440.. My old distributor was worn out and so my options were open. Only negative was I had to grind on my head a little as the base of the distributor was to wide to fit.. I went with the black cap with the female ends to look somewhat stock, but you can use a red cap with the male ends. I like the idea of a bearing inside the distributor instead of a bushing.. Clean, simple and it works great....

Someone was having a closeout ( bouchillon??) on the MSD plug and plays.. $99 I think?? a steal...

I have used it on two cars. You still need the ballast unless you get a new coil that runs on 12 volts.

Use a 12 volt coil with a built-in ballast, like the Pertronix Flamethrower and you can bypass or remove the original ballast resistor.

I have the new Ignitor II and it removes the
ballast all together. Nice setup and works quite
a bit better than the original.

I'm waiting for the Ignitor III billet distributor.
Not available yet. MSD performance w/rev limiter all in the "dis." And you can use either their 60kv or 45kv coil.
I've used the original conversion in 2 cars and they've worked well.

I have their distributor and rev limiter (bought it before the III version came out) on my 440 in the 66 Coronet. I checked the advance curve against Eburgs recommended curve in the Mopar Action tech section and it was right on, didn't need to change a thing. My fuel economy went up a bit, and a tad more seat of the pants dyno HP increase.

You don't need a ballast resistor if you use the right coil with the correct resistance/impedance. I used their 60KV Ecore coil with a bracket I fabricated to use the stock coil bolt holes.

I did have to clearance the cylinder head quite a bit

Coil is in front of the air filter, rev limiter is next to the voltage regulator on the fire wall.
