Terminated (again) on 3/23/23 this time. No reason given, was quoting/selling and outselling all co-workers and doing well, just pulled the plug on my job right after lunch on Thursday.
Very sad, scared, and not feeling good about the future.

Have a new granddaughter to help take care of, two boys as young adults one in training as a Chrysler tech the other in U of Iowa for pre-pharmacy.
And me? No income, no employment, but put out tons of applications this week. Ugh.
Stupid state laws ('at will') hiring and firing for no reason at all. Ugh.

This stinks. Wish me luck, I've got several applications out there and had two promising interviews this week.

Go back and ask the manager is charge what you did wrong so you can improve on it in the future. If they refuse to tell you, throw water in their face. I find people who are too afraid to tell you anything to your face and usually to afraid to do anything in life.

Good Luck Sir , I hope you find something ! I am just curious why you can't collect unemployment it should be available for a person in your predicament thats what it is meant for unless your state has different laws.

If they give you a reason it could be grounds for a law suit. So they don't give you a reason.

Wasn't it Shakespeare that suggested that FIRST we kill all lawyers?
It sure would be satisfying.

Walk away from the insurance industry!

I've done everything from owning my own agency to selling aircraft insurance.

At the end of the day none of them want to pay you what you are worth and don't like the idea of paying renewal commissions long term.

I took a completely different path after selling my agency when a friend asked me to come and help out with an HVAC distribution business.

I'm an employee owner and, honestly, I couldn't be happier! It's funny how there are a lot people at my job that were also in the insurance business and left for the same reasons.

It's hard to hit the reset button on employment the older you get. Hang in there!

Iowa is a right to work state. Which means a right to fire state. An employer could fire a person for wearing a green shirt and get away with the termination. As cruel as it sounds it can and does happen and the poor employee can't do a thing about it. shruggy

Selling insurance as an agent is a tough gig, no doubt.

To the OP ... I don't know you, never spoke to you, never met you or seen you. So I'm not casting any judgement on you personally. HOWEVER, having spent many years in management I can honestly say that in almost all cases of dismissal the reason is looking back at you in the mirror. And the fact you say "terminated "again"" lends more credence to my statement. I have seen people let go for personal hygiene reasons, for violation of dress codes, safety violations, assaults, verbal abuse, sexual abuse, punctuality, lack of people skills, lack of the required job skills, theft, failure to meet performance goals and the list goes on. But you know something, not getting along with your co-workers or boss will get you tossed in a heartbeat regardless of all other things. There's an old saying ... FIFO ... Fit In or F*** Off

I agree with some of Stantons comments at my last job I worked there for almost ten years but never really got along with the couple that owned the company mainly due to work ethic , they chose to focus on the slackers thinking they were the greatest employees on earth when in reality they were getting over on the company every day. I worked my butt off doing three different jobs , while they hid all day , at 65 years old at the time I out worked guys there half my age , was never late for work or called in sick. No matter how much I did from doubling their packaging output in my first year to spending 16 hours some days behind the wheel delivering their product it was never good enough . They claim I had an attitude : yes I do .. I expect my co workers to work as hard as I do I know thats not reality but thats how I felt. Three years ago I was called in the office and was told " we are afraid you are going to get covid so we are laying you off " ( I never got covid ) in my case it was sort of a forced retirement as I was going to turn 66 in another month and had received my first social security check a few weeks before my lay off. Financially I was better off not working and I now have a part time job I really enjoy and I am appreciated . I probably should have filed an age discrimination law suit against the company but with the whole pandemic I didn't know my legal recourse. I am still upset with myself for giving so much effort and ten years of my life to such unappreciative idiots and its been three years since I was laid off

Its not ALL about the Benjamins. But now I LOVE working "100hrs a week to get away from working 40" (was actually 55). I dont even need an alarm clock. I HATED working with slackers like the poster above mentioned. Funny how the 80/20 pricipal works - 20% of the people do 80% of the work. Thats how it was where I worked. I had a giant stack on MY desk while others were on facebook or played video games when the boss was not looking. I used to ask all the salesguys that came in, "where is there a company with turned on motivated employees?!?!" NO ONE could think of or recommend a place like that?!?!?! I don't mind killing myself and doing superior work but want to be compensated too. NOW I have that. Too bad I had to learn my lesson so late in life; 45. And again I know its not about the Benjamins but I get to make 3X what I was paid as a career industrial automation controls/robotics engineer. PLUS the biggest benefit - when I left my last job all the "equity" I had "accumulated" I carried out in a small box; coffee cup, pencil, stapler. Now when I "leave" I'll have hilos, laser equipment, CNC machines, 2 buildings, hundreds of thousands in tooling, millions in inevntory, etc. And I'm a mortal. I had a mortgage, kids, car payments, etc. I'd collect cans on the side of a highway before I work for anyone again. I always like the saying "why help someone else build thier dreams when you can build your own". The monsters I worked for owned multiple homes, car collections, took exteneded fancy vacations, had (3) $8000 coffee makers and artwork delivered to the business for their homes, while they were greedy with pay raises. One is in prison now for embezelment! Woo Hoo! Prayers are answered smile

Going to look at this building in a couple hours. We need more room.

Economy slowing down, time to cut the drama queens and low performers. Maybe you just didn't fit in with the culture. I've [censored] canned some decent people, and an army of losers, too. Also been on the other side of the table. You got the last job somehow. You'll get the next one too. up

In my experience a lot of people who think they're "carrying the weight of the world on their shoulders" aren't even carrying their own.

Performance reviews are where perception meets reality - on both sides. If you don't work in a union environment then a minimum of an annual performance review should be mandatory. Performance reviews in a union environment are useless since you can't do anything about the slack bastards anyway. If and when you do get a performance review there should be NO SURPRISES - if there is, it demonstrates a complete lack of communication on management's part. An annual review is no time to be telling someone they've been screwing up for the past twelve months !!
