I’ve been meaning to freshen things up under the hood for a few years, I finally got around to it this winter. The engine still runs great but had some oil leaks and things were starting to look a little grungy.

Pic#1: Initial disassembly
Pic#2: Drivetrain removal
Pic#3: Engine compartment cleaned, detailed and ready for the engine re-installation.
Pic#4: Final stages of engine preparation, now resealed, repainted and better detailed than when I first built it in the late ‘90’s

We got the engine back in the GTX on Saturday morning and spent the rest of the afternoon hooking things up.

The next task is the front suspension. I just finished restoring the last of the front end hardware so all of the parts are ready to go. A little clean up in the wheel wells and I can start bolting parts back on...

Excellent!

Slightly off topic...how does that floor hold up to this sort of work (cherry pickers, jacks, etc.?

Not too bad. The biggest problem is something heavy with small wheels can be hard to move on the “coined” surface. For example, I put my ‘58 on wheel dollies to get it close to the wall and make room around the GTX, it is a lot harder to get moving than it was on a bare floor. The cherry picker and floor jack are no problem. On the plus side, it cleans up nice and looks a lot better than the underlying concrete floor did.

It was too cold to do epoxy before I moved in. Once I moved in, what do I do with all my stuff? It takes several days to prep and coat the floor. There’s no way I’d leave my cars and tools unsecured in the driveway. Race deck seemed like the next best solution, installing it only took an afternoon.

Everything is loosely installed, after the torsion bars go in I will finish connecting the sway bar and install the shocks. The GTX could be a roller again this weekend. I also need to get the grill and headlight bezels back on, the car looks so naked without them…

Good to see you back Mark. Hope you are doing well. Maybe we can meet up at Mopars in the Park this year?

Thanks Jeff, I’m still alive and kicking. The GTX made it to the winners circle again after a 9 year hiatus, so I’ll be around all weekend. I’m sure we’ll cross paths…
