3 out of 4 of my wheel opening moldings on my Charger are in decent shape, one has some small dings. I was thinking about buying the new ones from 521 restoration. They claim they are a new engineered piece because the others didn't fit. Anyone use them? Not sure if I should like at a better LR to just upgrade my used set, or just a get a new pair. Need to buy them now.so I can drill the holes for the screws in the new quarters before paint.

Thanks

Duane

If it were me I would find a nice used or NOS to replace the one you need vs re-drilling holes in the car for a whole new set.

I think these wheel opening moldings should come w/o holes so people can drill their own into the molding, and not the car. Or better yet just make the holes where they are supposed to be.

I had all mine straightened, and polished. He did my worse one first and had be recheck the fit. Perfect. They came out like show quality. Check around for someone local that might do it.

One other thought. Drilling holes now can be an issue later. What you thought fit now does not fit. Myself paint it and then fit and drill. The screws will cut the paint to the metal anyway.

Test fit to the car. The wheel opening on reproduction quarters are not quite the same as originals, and original moulding will need some tweaking to fit.

Factory wheel opening moldings were originally made from sheet aluminum which takes bright anodizing very well with high shine. Some reproductions have been made of extruded aluminum, a different chemistry of very hard and stiff aluminum that does not anodize very well and will have only a dull shine.

Sheet aluminum moldings are pliable and can be fitted to fender metal by minor hand bending.

Extruded aluminum moldings are very hard, very stiff and unbendable. If buying some like this that have a dull shine, return immediately. You don't want them.

Layson's sells the real deal. Excellent quality, but might be a long waiting time if not in stock.

Actually, the Charger ones are stainless. After cleaning them up with a little Mothers polish, they look better than I thought. May just send one out to get the couple dimples out. Guess I will see if there is someone in the NJ PA area that does them.

Thanks for the replies.

That's right. Your OEM stainless is of better quality than the junk sold today. On my 69 Charger 90 percent was usable and came out beautiful. Fix what you got.

I bought a number of 68-70 Charger moldings over the decades (customers cars/personal toys) from Year One, yes YO.....if things haven't change vendor wise, YO lists 2 Charger molding choices based on screw count per wheel opening front to rear....I've had zero issues using YO's offering....no drilling, all the screw holes lined up perfectly front to back/side to side on the cars....
