That is only a throttle return for the most part.I don't see it controlling the trans at all. I thought you were saying to add a spring inline with the kickdown cable which will actually work to solve over extension That is what I was saying. Finding what you want and will work is a process and budget many times will determine what you do and nothing wrong with that.

To fix the angle of your Lokar kd cable cut a piece of aluminum from home depot the size of your current bracket + enough to raise the kd cable to be in line more and drill a 1/4" holes[3] 2 where the current holes are and 1 above. You will use a bolt in the current kd hole and cut a slot in the new bracket for each cable to slide in and snug the cable nuts to secure the cables.I will look at the throttle levers and see what it needs to work, how long a spring and what spring fastener to cable.I hope this helps. Yes, I already have a piece I’m going to use to remake that bracket to correct the angle

just my opinion and nothing less, my personal experience trying to fix lokar products [especially the kick down kit], i would toss them and try to use a factory cable style kick down. i have found the lokar inner cables are low quality and stretch, and the bracketry is made of insufficient thickness with no needed bracing, and bend easily. my experience is removing over a dozen of these "kits" and re-installing factory pieces, plus re-engineering several brackets as well as replacing cables with ones of better quality. your mileage will vary.

I have considered this and I do have a stock throttle cable but I didn’t know there was a trans cable - thought they were all rods and pivots. I do have the kickdown rods and brackets that came on this engine but that’s not going to work. My experience is that once you set these cheap lokar cables, you better leave them alone. I have had to move mine a few times and now they’re coming apart.

90s/2000 trucks had cables for the trans.

In the days before Lokar and such, I made KD provisions by running 1/8" (1x19) aircraft cable inside steel brake tubing flared at each end. My dual Holley blower setup used a mechanical pushrod throttle linkage with a bellcrank mounted at the rear of the 6-71. The bellcrank both pushed the carbs open and pulled the KD lever from the rear. The tubing mounted on a bracket at the engine and another on the trans tailhousing bolts similar to Lokar. A spring is mandatory to pull the trans lever forward and the trans lever travel needs to closely match the carb lever travel. I don't have pics of the cable setup but here's the car it was mounted on circa 1976.
