I'm looking at an ad for a Cummins 6BT that came out of a '69 F700 dump truck. How similar are these to the 6BT's in the Dodges? Would this engine be a candidate for an engine swap into a '70's W200 or would it turn out to be a mongrel?

The B series Cummins started production in 1984. So a 69 Ford would of never had it from the factory. Maybe someone transplanted a newer 6BT into the older truck. There is a Brazilian made inline 6 diesel that a lot of people call a Cummins which it is not. Not sure of its history but I believe it was made in two sizes and was a decent engine.

Thanks for the info! It has an Allison behind it but based on your comments I have the sneaking suspicion that it is not a Cummins.

There were other Cummins available in 69 and the Allison was commonly used back then. My 1971 AM General m-817 military dump has the Cummins 250. My bets that Ford could also have it. Totally different than the 6BT. The 250 was uses in a lot of big over the road trucks and HD equipment even big light plants.
