I have a 96 5.2 drive train in my 49 Dodge pickup. Because there is 40 tons of stuff in the oil fill cap area of the 5.2, an extension that would stand 4" or so above the valve cover would sure make putting oil in this thing much easier. One that screws in like the fill cap, that I can screw my fill cap onto would be great.

Maybe I'm just dreaming, but didn't Dodge use an oil filler extension on some of the big trucks? I'm sure I remember seeing one on a Mopar someplace.

The only thing I'm finding on line is one from Summit, and there are no dimensions for it, if you type in a 96 Dodge 5.2, it says it doesn't fit.

I would be very thankful for any help or thoughts on this one.

You could get one for a van and modify it as needed.

I worlk for Parker Hannifin on hydraulic hose, tubing, pneumatics. Parker has a product, HTFL tubing, which is a high temp nylon tubing product, used on a lot of over the road Class 8 trucks:

https://ph.parker.com/us/en/diesel-fuel-tubing-htfl-pft-series

HTFL tubing works with standard compression style tube fittings, so the tube can be attached to a pipe thread pipe, SAE straight thread port, Metric and BSPP striaght thread ports. It is somewhat flexible to route through relaxed arcs. Can even be thermal formed on a simple jig wiht a heat gun to thermal set it to a specific shape. Might be an option for you?

The product should be available at any retail counter at a Parker distributor, and most any Parker Store.

Buying HTFL product in less than 500' lengths is next to impossible.

I have one on my wagon, I pulled it off a late '80's M-body cop car I parted out, I don't think its cop car specific though.

Old blurry pic on my wagon......

Andy, I was more looking towards a metal stand off the valve cover. I can clearly see the cap, but its pretty much down in a hole. I can always use a longer spout funnel, but something attached and remains there would be nice. The hole in the cover is about 1.5" in diameter.

John, did the one on your 5th Ave press into the cover, or did it lock in with a 1/4 turn? There was an era with Mopar where the oil fil cap was rubber that pressed into the cover. I did see it had the push on cap, I'd be OK with that.

What I remember of the rubber push in style, the whole was round, and the cover surface was smooth on both the top and bottom surface. Since the cap on my cover is the 1/4 turn in and lock style, so the hole has the notches and the has the raised edges (inside the cover) for the lock tabs to pull tight against. I'm not sure the push in style would seal to the cover, or be secure once in the hole. I did see where I could buy an extension with a rubber "O" ring, that was the push in style for GM motors too.

I could buy a new oil cap and build my own fill extension, if it comes down to that, but buying something would be a lot easier.

Thanks for the help so far, I'm still looking at options. If someone has a fill extension on their motor, real pictures and measurements, and where I might find one like yours would be helpful. Thank You.

It’s the 1/4 turn like a regular cap.

OK, I found the Mopar extension for the trucks with a bent tube.

Part # 4173223 There is a NOS one on ebay for $69.99 right now. At this time, I'm going to have to hold off for a month or so (I blew this months truck budget already). It appears the person that has the NOS one listed puts one up for sale about every few months, maybe when I can buy one, he will still have one listed. I guess what I'm saying is if you need it, go for it.

HP383, the one on Amazon is the same one Summit lists. Both places say it does not fit on my 96 Dakota 5.2 motor. Also, the reviews say there is only one tube in the package, not the two tubes shown in the pictures. One of the tubes is the one I would want, the other is the press in one, and its pretty unclear which one you get. Unless someone has actually purchased one and knows you get the 1/4 turn lock one and it fits in Mopar valve cover, I'm going to take their word it won't fit.

Yeah, true about buying Parker HTFL in less the full reel lengths can be challenging. Other sources may be heavy truck repair shops, like for Paccar, Kenworth, Peterbuilt, Navastar. They may have stock or cut off lengths. Sometimes a Parker Store will also cut a short length or even give away scrap lengths. But it can be difficult to source sometimes.

The PN comes up for 90 5.2/5.9 engines. Are they the same as the 96?
The ebay auction shows out of stock, I never saw that before.
I just checked partsgeek, the 90 is quarter turn, 96 is threaded

My 96 is a 1/4 turn. 96 Dakota.

Yep, just checked again, it too is out of stock. guess I didn't want one anyway.

looks like the Mr. Gasket one may be the only option.

On those it was cop and taxi specific. Normal M bodies had a regular oil cap right on the valve cover.

I'd have thought a van one would be easier to find but but be too long if it's extending all the way to the hood.

If I remember correctly, I added the o-ring to get it to fit tighter and stop an oil leak.
