Found what is claimed as a '72 Rallye Charger but it has a 318, did Rallye Chargers come with a 318? Here's the first 7 of the VIN--WL21G2A.

Did somebody hang doors on a 72’ Charger? Vin says it’s a 318, but most Rallye that I know of had ‘WH’ for Rallye and though I’m not sure, I believe all base Rallye cars started with 340 engine. Do you have pics of the car?

Mine is a factory 340 and I’ve had 3 others.

The 318 was standard with the A57 Rallye option. Remember the 72 Rallye was a package, not a model like the 71 R/T.

I remember somebody constantly insulting me as an ignorant southamerican at dodge-charger.com ( the old board ) when I stated the standard engine on Rallyes was the 318. Still showing the dealers book and andvertisings brochures with the specs for the Rallye.

About the 340 engine on Rallyes. That was the only way to get 340s, buying a Rallye. So any 72/73 Charger with 340 is a Rallye by default. 360 on 74 since 340 was replaced for it.

On 71 the 340 was just available for the Superbee.

And Yes, a Rallye could be WL21 or WH23… even is true most were WH23 hardtops

That Hemmings link from Stumpy explains it all, they were available with a 318 & a "3 on the tree" which this car has. Thanks Stumpy.

Yeah, forgot about 318 being an option. In all the years at shows, just beverages seen a 318 on. Nice to know you could get One.

We (my old business partner & I) were on a parts trip back in the 80's & were in Phoenix. We saw a Rallye Charger (73-74 style) sitting in a parking lot & we check it out. It had hood emblems on the dome that simply said "MAGNUM." Right about the moment we arrived at the car, the owner comes walking out of the store & we start talking about the car, which he owned from new. Yep - it was an original 318 car. Until this encounter, we never knew the Rallye Charger was available with a 318!

Same thing with Challengers. Starting in '72 you could get a 318 car decked out like a 340 with scoops, stripes and I believe suspension, except it didn't have any hood emblems or the dual exhaust cut-outs.

The magnum emblem was usted on 74s with 360. 318s didn’t got any engine emblem

Yep and in 73 the 318 was standard in the Road Runner.

I ordered a new Charger in '73. It was a 318 with Rallye package. I ordered the stripe delete, but it had the hood bulge with no emblems. I also ordered the handling package, G60-15 RWL tires, Tuff steering wheel.

I have a 1974 Charger A57 Rallye,factory 318 4-speed and a 3.21 9.25 axle.There were never any engine callouts on the OE bulge hood. Traded that hood for a 'glass 6 pack hood....hindsight. RT

A buddy has a 73 or 4 Roadrunner hood stashed in my shop. The areas on the bulge for the callouts are blank.
