It's been almost 2 years since the rebuild/stroker upgrade was started on the wife's 2006 Charger Daytona 5.7.

It started with the dreaded valve seat fallout at 220k miles on the 5.7 Hemi.

Rather than just a stock rebuild it got an upgrade to a 6.4 stroker kit and upgraded to a set of 2014 Eagle heads.
It's getting a 6.1 factory intake with a custom ground camshaft, stainless long tube headers and high flow cats.

The whole pandemic BS mean it took forever to get machine work done.

I was finally able to pick it up from the engine builder last night. WooHoo!!!
Next step is painting it, Hemi Orange of course. laugh2

I'll be curious to see what you do for paint, rattle can or spray gun, and what all will get color. I'm pre paint currently, trying to figure out what to do for the heads, if I want to leave them natural, paint them aluminum, or paint the orange. Same with the front cover.

I'm planning on using Ditzler/PPG Urethane Hemi Orange (without gold metallic) paint (sprayed with a gun obviously) that I already have.
I'm planning on painting pretty much everything but the valve covers. I may skip painting the oil pan though, undecided on that yet.

Other than the heads, most of the aluminum stuff has enough wear/tarnish that I thing it will look better painted.

As far as the other question posed, If it's in the ballpark of a 6.4 the wife will be happy.

It's still going to see life in nice weather as her daily driver so she didn't want to go radical with it.

As long as she can do bigger smoky burnouts with it she'll be happy. laugh2

The 6.1 aluminum intake looks better than the 6.4 plastic intake. Recently a friend ran a 6.4 on the dyno and ran both intakes. the 6.4 intake was better by over 20 HP and torque. Something to consider.

On this build for her car looks are probably more important than getting ever last possible bit of horsepower.

As long as it sounds good and has more power than it had (it was rated at 345 hp stock) she'll be happy.
That and she just wants her car running again. laugh2

The 6.1 in my 2010 Challenger SRT did 417 rwhp with the mods it has.
If her Charger is in that ballpark she'll be really happy. drive

6.4 intake is far superior and is better than 20hp. It switches from short ram to long ram, engine masters tested it and it was eye watering how good they work. Not sure it fits an older non VCT hemi though

The cars computer is pre VVT and pre split runner so there's no reason to even try to use the later intake.

I've got the Engine Masters DVR'd that compares the intakes, from memory the biggest difference was a broader and flatter torque curve and a gain of HP at a high rpm.

As already stated, I don't care about gaining every last bit of HP, it will have far more that it ever did in 2006 so the wife will be happy with it.

I have a truck split runner intake from the 2014 engine that the heads came off, eventually it will be sold as I have no use for it.

[Picked up a 2007 R/T in limp mode a few month ago for a song. It's got a truck long block in it and I have it running really well but I am looking around for a 6.1 to drop in with just a cam swap maybe. If that falls thru I will be doing something like your doing. Keep us posted.

This is GoManGo without the metallic. It is quite tangy!

It'll get painted with the same batch of Hemi Orange paint that I painted the Dart's engine with.
It looked better before the front carb fuel line broke and it caught fire at the track in October. ozbbq

Thank you. This was my first time painting an engine with catalyzed paint from a gun. I've always sprayed them with cans. I got tired of the engines always looking shabby after a few years.

It does really look good.
I'm surprised that it doesn't really look lighter in color than the Hemi Orange that I've been spraying.

Usually GoManGo/Vitamin C Orange looks paler/lighter in color.

I wondered if the lack of metallic allowed it to appear brighter. I am quite happy with the color.

I painted the engine Hemi Orange today.
I used the last of the PPG Deltron single stage urethane that I had.
I guess it's time to get more mixed up, I've been using that quart for about 20 years now to paint engines. laugh2

The intake still needs cleaned up, I just set it on there to take pics.
I'm trying to decide whether to have it ceramic coated or powder coated to keep the finish nice on it...
