I knew better, but I thought I'd take advantage of the Black Friday / Cyber Monday 30% at YEAR ONE. I had $623 in parts in my basket and after the discount I saved $186. The discount removed the "Free Shipping" that my order had previous qualified for prior to entering the discount. No big deal, I thought. The only large part I had in the order was an E body rear valance, which although long, doesn't weigh that much.
Estimated Shipping.... $210!
Imagine adding 40% to an order for shipping. I'll shop elsewhere.

Same thing happened to me on a $100 wiring harness. But discount at the time was 20%, so $80 and they added $19 for shipping. Small item and it came in a $6 USPS envelope
The only upside is they aren’t adding tax yet

I am surprised you were able to find anything to buy that was not "except from discount". Yup, that's why I got excited. 3 of 5 items were discount eligible. But in the end....the joke was on me. I forgot to mention...$210 was the ground shipping. They wanted $1100 for 2 day shipping.

The only thing I used to buy was wiring harnesses from Year One but now everyone sells them.
The worst was when non-computer guys would pay full retail to Year One. Than god there are other retailers out there.

BigDaddy, you should check for yourself what the shipping costs are thru some of the shipping companies. Check Fedex Ground, USPS Parcel Post and UPS. All you have to do is go online and check what the cost is from Year One's zip code to your zip code, measure and weigh the part and the value for insurance. You said the largest part was the E body rear valance, correct. Just check what it would cost you to ship that part. Your close to 2500 miles away from Year One's location. That rear valance probably weighs around 20 lbs when finished packaged. The problem is that valance is very large, especially when being shipped close to 2500 miles. You will be very surprised what it would cost you to ship that part. Not even considering getting the proper shipping box, packaging, taking the package to a shipping company, etc. I can see your point of the shipping costs. I'm just saying start checking some shipping costs for yourself and you will see what it costs to ship large parts that kind of distance. Also noticed, your order would have been $24 less without the 30% discount!

Shipping via UPS has gotten way out of hand, especially if it's a more rural area.
I ship out every day and to get a small 8x8x8 box just halfway across Kansas to a couple of small towns we deal with, it's often $40-50 depending on weight (usually less than 2 lbs.)

GY3 - for that, use the USPS Priority Flat Rate boxes - way cheaper, and maybe faster. I have no use for the USPS! Our customers typically want parts next day to fix HVAC stuff.

I didn’t even know that YearOne was still around. Last purchased from them around 20 years ago. Though, I did like their catalogs.

I recently used a friend's FedEx account to ship a '67 Barracuda from here (central California) to east Texas. With the inflated insurance the buyer wanted it was around $120. It shipped in a dash pad box which is probably bigger than the valence box, or at least the same size. Year One (and any business with an account) gets a huge break on shipping (and yeah, I gave my buddy $20 for the break on shipping). Dash arrived in great shaped, as well. Jim that was pretty clever leaving out a word to make me read your entire post to figure out how you shipped an entire '67 Barracuda FedEx and what it was going to cost? Got to the end and it was a dash not an entire car. Silly me Mike
