I have a power steering cooler in the return line of the Charger. It is steel and came from a mid 80s M body Police car. It has served me well but I thought I should find a spare in case this one ever cracks and can't be fixed. These M body cars are not so common anymore so I started looking at late model cars. Many have some type of inline cooler but I recall hearing that they can be found on Dodge/Plymouth Neon and PT Cruiser models.
I did find that to be the case. They are mounted to a front crossmember forward of the steering rack.

They are not real hard to remove. The bolts go in from above so you'd need a box end 9 mm wrench. These coolers are aluminum and have weird lines that can be cut down.

A much better option can be found in these:

Their coolers are also aluminum but are much easier to remove and they have short nipples....this makes them much easier to retrofit into our cars.

Two 9 mm bolts accessed from underneath, two lines to cut with a blade and it is out.
The brackets are steel, the cooler is aluminum. Simple brackets can be made to mount it anywhere you get a little bit of air flow.
Check out the Minivan version next to the Neon version. Both will work but the Minivan one seems like it would be a simpler choice.

Nice find, what did they charge for those.
I was shocked at the prices last time I went, my JY now adds a core and warranty fee.........
Sometimes it's not much more to buy new, crazy.

They will clean up.
Your option has no brackets. Sticking it to the radiator? No thanks....

No matter where you buy the Hayden unit, you're paying shipping and maybe sales tax. By then you're at three times the cost and limited to the same crappy mounting design.

You obviously did not read the info tab. Comes with mounting hardware. And it's not the dirt that I am talking about when I say they are beat up. It's the bent fins and who knows what rock/debris damage there is.

Three options, mostly based on hose size, all come with mounting hardware. The Hayden 1012 first pic shows the mounts on the tubes.

New stuff is nice, I'll admit.
I often prefer to repurpose used stuff that still has life left in it. The ones I got for $9.00 each can be cleaned up and after a minute straightening the fins, it will be fine. These aren't correct for an OEM restored car anyway. Function matters to some more than others.
I'm still dollars ahead and the function will be the same.

Round here they charge you $10 to get in the yard so a $10 part becomes $20. I would rather pay for a new one because I wouldn't have to make the drive, pay for entry, and pay for the part + it's a new part in a box that could get stocked easily on my parts rack till I need it.

I have not.
I noticed that when the weather gets hot, driving will often reveal the need for these coolers if you're sawing the wheel back and forth a lot.
I have an inline cooler in my finished car. I bought these for my other projects that have yet to see extensive street time.
One car of mine was just recently registered so now I'll be able to put some real street time on it.

For the record.....I wasn't really doing 130 when I took that picture.
The speedo worked fine at first but then got stuck at 60 mph even while I was stopped. I was doing around 70 when that picture was taken.

Around here, in addition to this, they'll hit you with core charge, environmental fees, AND force a warranty on 'ya. So, that $10 part has a too real chance of ending up being $35 or more.

Still, I like seeing info regarding 'yard parts. If you can get them cheap, they're still a viable option. beer

I've used junkyard fluid coolers before and it never ended well. Probably has more to do with living in the rust belt than anything else though.
