I have an 88 2x truck and I can get a 4x4 complete frame-rears l just need trans and transfer case (auto) I want a part time type transfer, what years do I look for. Was one made? Just a truck no off road stuff. (318-360 engine) Thanks

i am no truck expert.
with that said, i "think" the transfer case was a divorced unit up until around 1976 or so. these also had the shorty transmission tail shaft that used a bolt on yolk for the driveshaft to the transfer case.
so looking at that, what year is your frame ?
if the early transmission and transfer case is available, can it be adapted to your frame by possibly using the early cross members ?
i can't answer about the newer cases being part time units. others will have to answer that question.

Frame is 88, I think, has big 5 lug pattern

They went back to part time in '80. Most likely '80 thru '93 would work.
