So whats the story on this Hemi Car?????

https://www.nsclassics.com/used-vehicle-1971-dodge-challenger-r-t-hemi-4-speed-manual-trans-c-5205/

Seems like a good buy, only thing that i see right away is this a flood car by looks of certian things.

I can't find the thread but we spoke about this one. Rust everywhere and the flood status certainly seems possible. I think someone knew the history- and it wasn't good. The car needs a roof for sure, and likely a lot more.

The font on the engine pad stamping also looks suspicious. I wonder if it is a re-stamp.

@Alaskan_TA ?

only 134K ? SMOKING DEAL apimp
I noticed the door strikers, screws, and latches are painted as well. Also liked the FRESH Broadcast sheet that obviously wasn't underwater whistling
I usually don't like the 71's but this one would have definitely been an exception frown Sad as it was a beautiful car. Likely a good candidate for a rebody might go 50 or so on it shruggy

Wow, lot of money for a car that needs complete and total disassembly, clean, dip, replacement of many items, etc.

I'm not sure dipping that would leave much behind unless it was in wire mesh container shruggy beer

Maybe it is rebody already, I canĀ“t see torque boxes or pinion snubber reinforment plate?

I'll assume it's real for my comment, but it seems to me the better way to have gone would have been to offer it as a damaged car, flood or not, and not spent the money for a repaint and new graphics. Now, it lives in that "yeah...no" category. To the consignor's credit, at least they clearly show that there is damage, and potentially a lot of it.

This is the perfect example of a perfumed pig. This car can not be assigned survivor or even a driving project class. This IS a full on resto needed car. Two signs of how bad the car is would be the top and trunk. The top has been treated with something to make it look ood and show less wear and lower the visible amount of rust that is hiding under it. The trunk pan shows multiple rust areas and is purposely being hidden.

The engine compartment shows how really bad the rust became when it eroded the black paint off the valve covers. The rusty cowl shows that this car was resprayed and how time has made it much worse. This car from all the problems visible does not command this kind of money. I would say $70k tops because of all the listed problems on it. I see at least an additional $75-$80k restoration costs to be performed on this car. and that is not even am OEM spec resto for this car.

Been for sale for quite a while. I agree. Looks to be a real mess.

It is an early built Challenger. Now why does it have the 1970 no Crush Zones Hood on the car. Lots of early built E Bodies received 1970 parts. I know early 1971 Cudas and April built 1971 Cudas that optioned the Cuda with a shaker hood received 1970 Shaker hoods without the crush zones. Most early Hemi E Bodies received the 1970 Rad the 1970 Rear Wing and the list goes on and on. The Passenger inner fender is 1970. So look to see if it has all of these. I did look. Can not see the Hemi Body Structures in the pictures. I have had this VIN on my list for a long time but it has gone under a repaint once and has had a few options added that could cover some bad rust spots. Under 150 for a complete 1971 Hemi E Body no a days is a rare thing. If you are interested have someone decod the broadcast sheet to see what numbers are on it. Lots should be 1970 Numbers. Also things like the front bumpers there were four different fronts and three different rears. Late 1971 Challenger also use 1972 parts so things do get tricky with 71s but that also helps out to see if these cars have had body panel changes. July 15th, 1970 is the assembly date of the transmission.
